Hello,
I had some bad luck this week, so I won't be participating in the challenges for awhile. We were relocating from Manassas, VA to Colorado Springs this week. We stopped at a hotel in Charleston, West Virginia for the night. One of our cars was stolen some time in the middle of the night, and my camera bag was in that car! I usually don't leave my cameras in the car overnight, but it was late, we were tired, and we had three small children to carry up to the hotel room.
Don't let this happen to you!! Keep your cameras with you, even for a short stay overnight.

That's terrible! Where are the good old days when horse(or in your case car) thieves were strung up on the nearest tree? I've had my car broken into a couple of times, so I know the feeling. There is no worse feeling than that feeling of total helplessness you get when you realise some bastard has violated your private space. Hope they catch them, and get your stuff back!

My insurance will cover the contents, and boy was it packed full. I put all of my 'fragile' stuff, including cameras, tv, computer, video game system, 300 dvd's, all my computer software, etc, etc in that vehicle. I thought that stuff would be better protected in the Blazer instead of being in the Uhaul trailer. This is inconvenient and a hassle, but I will get to go shopping for a new camera now! THe CP5700 was a great camera, but there were some issues that drove me nuts, though. It did not focus well in low light (if at all), no rear curtain sync for the flash, no multiple exposure capability. My dad just got a Canon G3 and it seems like a great camera. I might buy one of those to use until DSLR's get to the level I'd like>
Take care,
JD

I am so sorry...
I was in Atlanta, Georgia several years ago and in a restaurant across the road from my hotel. I put my camera bag on the window sill along with my purse and you guessed it--walked out and left it. But I remembered when I got out to the parking lot and turned around and ran back in nearly knocking a few people over who were on their way out! Well, it was gone! And the waitress told me that some folks had sat down at the table after we left and then they promptly left and we think that's who I nearly knocked over! That was a fantastic Pentax SLR and I never got it replaced.

Man, that's a shame! I must say that you sound like a diehard photographer here -- it sounds like you're more upset about the camera than you are about the car!
Anyway, sorry to hear about the theft -- it's a real said comment on our society. |

Ouch... sorry to hear about that... especially in the middle of a move. Glad you're insured, though!
Quick reminder to everyone: If you haven't done so already, check with the insurance agent who carries your homeowners or renters insurance about getting a personal articles police for your camera. It's surprisingly inexpensive (and it costs you nothing to inquire), and typically covers not only theft, but loss and breakage as well, usually with no deductible.

sorry to hear about that...and I definatley know the feeling... last year I moved to Virginia (where my boyfriend was stationed in the Navy) he was in the process of moving from a townhouse, to another townhome at the time. At the time I had just taken up an interest in photography, and I had brought my brand new Olympus C-3020...while moving things, some of the maintenance personel must have entered the townhouse while we were away, and a few days later I realized I never remembered packing up the camera. I had not taken it outside since I had been there. Well since I could not prove that the maintenance persoel did it, I was out of luck, and I did not have renters innsurance at the time. I did not have the camera long enough, to even have any film developed which made me sad...But I finally got a new digital camera (Olympus C-4000) a few weeks ago, so I am happy with that...it's a shame when those kinds of things happen... |
