I have seen IR photos taken on FujiFilm FinePix S602Zoom (I think I saw one on this site once). Can anyone tell me how it can be done? I don´t think I can use regular IR filters. |

I would also be grateful for that information. I have also seen IR photos witht the S602 but have no idea how to accomplish this. |

I also am interested. I once posted a photo here that someone thought was IR, but it wasn't. You wouldn't be thinking of my Parking - 30 Minutes Only entry in the Road Signs challenge, would you?

I found the solution myselfe :) If you point a TV or VCR remote control to your FinePix S602 camera and push any button on it, you can see the infrared light in the LCD display and take pictures of it. That´s mean if you have the adapter ring, you can use a regular 55mm IR filter.
You can find out on any digital cameras if they can take IR pictures by point a remote control to the lens.

I also have been intrigued by IR photgraphy. I have tried simulating it in PS, but am not satisfied with the results, so I am about to buy one. The Hoya R72 seems to be the filter that is mostly reccomended.
I'll post some examples once I have them.
PS. I'd love to see the examples of IR shots with a S602Z that you mention. Where did you find them?

Here is one with infrared filter: (I did´nt find the FinePix S602 IR photo...)

And some of the photos by Franziska Lang are taken on Canon PowerShot Pro 90 IS with IR filter, you can see them here:

...I think I found my solution, now I will buy me a IR filter next time I will get my monthly pay :)

By coincidence the IR filter for my 602 (the infamous Hoya R72) arrived today.
Of course I managed to nip out for a quick test before real life got in the way, but unfortunately the sun had called it a day and I forgot to take my tripod (d'oh!).
The first shot was a 3 sec exposure on a monopod :-/ converted to greyscale using the channel mixer.
[*]
and the second was a 5 sec exposure propped on a fencepost and converted to freaky-vision(tm) using auto-levels.
[*]
The first thing that struck me was the amount of noise - I've never seen anywhere near that much even on a 15 sec exposure, and it brings out the hotpixels I never knew I had! This may be due to the lack of direct sunlight - I will post again as soon as I get the chance to shoot in better conditions.
The hardest part was focusing and composing the frame - the viewfinder goes completely black. Again, a tripod would probably have been a good idea.
The good news is it works : )

I have also had problems with noise while using my 602 and Hoya IR72. Like you suggested, I have found that an ample supply of light with a steady camera is very important. This photo was taken at a 3 second exposure. A large light supply and tripod helped a lot to cut down on the noise |

That's an excellent shot Rob, it really puts my 'snapshots' in the shade if you'll excuse the terrible pun! I'm looking forward to trying it on a sunny day now : )
Does anybody have any tips for post-processing IR shots? As well as the best way to create the cool B&W shots I'd love to know how to get shots to look like this or this. |

Got home from work a lot earlier today. Sun was out so I dashed in, grabbed the camera & dog and headed off for more testing. I swear I'm jinxed :-/ The sun promptly went and hid behind the nearest cloud.
Still, the light was better (I could almost compose the frame with the filter on) and I remembered my tripod. Still not great, but an improvement:
Noise was definitely less of an issue and I can't see the hotpixels again. One of these days I'll catch the sun out and get a shot off in decent conditions!
Any help on the processing side still very much appreciated.
