While I'm not a HUGE Greese fan...I've got to say:

For a musical it is a rather good movie. However, you have to take it how it is ! It is a singing and dance "movie" from "Broadway". The singing and dancing are great for this type of movie. The cast is decent...Olivia, Travolta, Sid Ceasar...and the storyline is fairly good.

Go sit with your wife and take a look!

...is it about the movie musical "Grease"? I've seriously tried and I just can't get it. My wife is inside now with her eyes glued to it like it's The Godfather - and does this on occasion when it comes on. I watch 5 minutes of it and consider poking my eyes out. So I ask you, what the heck am I missing here?

Should this be in rant?

How can you not like “Grease” It’s imbedded in my youth I played a major role is our school production of grease.

I operated the curtain opening and closing during the scene changes a very important role that enabled to have several weeks off schoolâ€Â¦.. shame about missing all that school :)

Oh and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers & West Side Story are my top 2 favorite musicals. Well Oklahoma is cool too.

Wow! I've met so few people who even know what seven brides for seven brothers is! I love that movie!

I was just watching it in the hospital with my son (stuck a bead up his nose but he's fine now) even HE likes it. He made me turn back to it instead of watching cartoons. As for why? I dunno- I like the play better than the movie, but the movie will do in a pinch. Good tunes mostly.

Since non-musical classics are being mentioned, I'll also stick up for the Princess Bride

I'm such a stud.
In addition to these, yes, Dirty Dancing is yet another of my favs, and I even love
"10 things I hate about you" and "She's all that" and yes, "Beaches". (not that they are musicals)
Some feminine side I got huh? LOL

Until you find out that I don't watch The Estrogen Channel eh - I mean Lifetime, and I'm grumpy unless I have my daily fill (about 3 hours worth) of Blazing Saddles, complete with full sensory enhancements....
Well I wasn't kidding about Lifetime.

Sheesh - I gotta' get back to work!
In the middle of doing a clutch job on one of these and wanna' go road test it:

ok, let's keep things straight here. The musical is one of the few American-invented art forms. There's the musical, there's jazz, there's rock and roll, there's... um... hip hop... and I'm running out... pop art?

If you don't like Grease, then you either don't like musicals or you don't like rock and roll. Either way, you're a Communist.

and Dirty Dancing is NOT a musical.

Well, I gave it a chance. Now I'm blind and on my way to the hospital with an ice pick stuck in each eye (see original post).

I see someone mentioned Dirty Dancing. I would have to say that Grease and Dirty Dancing are her two top picks as she's glued to the TV when either is on.

I guess it's just something were going to have to get through. It may take years but I think we can work it out. I've already given her ten. If in ten more she still stares hypnotically at the screen when they are on, I'm gonna have to send her packing.

And posthumous. Rock n Roll kicks ass, Phantom of the Opera was great, Grease sucks - but not as bad as Cats. :P

I watch it when it comes on only because it was filmed at the high school I graduated from. Venice high school in Southern California. It’s kind of cool to see the old stomping grounds!

Summer lovin' had me a blast - summer lovin', happened so fast
I met a girl crazy for me - I met a boy, cute as can be
Summer days driftin' away, to uh-oh those summer nights

Tell me more, tell me more, did you get very far?
Tell me more, tell me more, like, does he have a car?

She swam by me, she got a cramp - he went by me, got my suit damp
I saved her life, she nearly drowned - he showed off, splashing around
Summer sun, something's begun, but uh-oh those summer nights

Tell me more, tell me more, was it love at first sight?
Tell me more, tell me more, did she put up a fight?

Took her bowlin' in the Arcade - we went strollin', drank lemonade
We made out under the dock - we stayed out until ten o'clock
Summer fling don't mean a thing, but uh-oh those summer nights

Tell me more, tell me more, that you don't got her preg
Tell me more, tell me more, cause he sounds like a drag

He got friendly, holdin' my hand - well she got friendly, down in the
sand
He was sweet, just turned eighteen - well she was good, you know what I
mean
Summer heat, boy and girl meet, but uh-oh those summer nights

Tell me more, tell me more, how much dough did he spend?
Tell me more, tell me more, could she get me a friend?

It turned colder, that's where it ends - so I told her we'd still be
friends
Then we made our true love vow - wonder what she's doin' now
Summer dreams ripped at the seams, but oh, those summer nights

Tell me more, tell me more.
