In all seriousness, the complaints have been heard and "filed." Can't promise anything, but it will be looked into. :)

Hindsite is always 20/20 but maybe in hindsite this should have been anounced so that more than a limited few could enter.

Fireworks don't just happen on July 4.

This would have been better as a month-long Challenge. We don't actually have Fourth of July fireworks in Japan - or Australia...

One of the towns here is having their display on the 22nd, but most places have theirs during August.

Quit complaining guys, at least you have some chance of seeing some fireworks in the 24 hours. But here in the rest of the world (we do actually exist) it is the middle of the week and not a public holiday.

No fireworks around this place on earth tonight :(
And you got the wrong date it`s November 5th for fireworks here.
I do expect to see another fireworks challenge then, not :)

I have to specifically point out no offence to our US neighbours, but I cannot see the rest of the WORLD running out and buying fireworks just for this specific challenge.

I guess, July 1 - Canada Day wasn't big enough holiday to include us in this challenge, right?

I would get personally booed from my back yard if I started to shoot fireworks on July 4th.

So happy Independence Day to you and this USA challenge.

Whilst this Aussie is lucky enough to be in the USA at this time, it still won't help us much, because the only ones with a slight hope to manage the time frame, are the east coast crowd....... and even for them it is nearly impossible. The rest of us don't get the fireworks until after the deadline.

Such a great idea for a challenge ... what a fun one to do ... being the middle of rotten weather in Wellington, NZ .. I love these pics to pick up my days :)

The big fireworks in Chicago are were tonight. I would guess we had some members that were there. Usually there is over a million people who attend. So, if those members who went down there could find a few square feet to set a tripod, they'll be happy when they get home and see this speed challenge!

Not really. The shot has to be taken July 4. (unless the dates have been changed or the shot was taken after midnight)

Just about....the Philly fire works are on after the concert in the parkway ends at 11:00PM....take photos....get home...upload...process. Very slim indeed....now...hmmm. well we'll see. Be easier with a later deadline.

fwiw, fireworks can mean more than the things that explode. A first kiss is often cliched as fireworks. Yeah, I know it's unfair, but would love to see some innovative ways around the challenge.

Whether politically correct or not, this site was started by a couple of Americans. They thought it would be neat to offer a speed challenge that just happens to coincide with an American holiday. Just because it's not a holiday in the rest of the world doesn't mean they are being snooty. So what if people can't enter every challenge? It's just one of those things that happens. Sometimes you can enter, sometimes you can't. This isn't a democracy...it's a website that offers a members challenge and an open challenge every week. Any other challenge offered above those is just cake. Why be all angry because there aren't fireworks in your neck of the woods today? All this griping is a surefire way to make sure no one ANYWHERE gets a speed challenge for a long while, I'm sure.

Could we see the first challenge in many moons with fewer than 100 entries? Considering how few folks will be getting actual firework displays in the time frame specified, I would put the over/under at 70.

So take a shot of your reaction to seeing this challenge unless you live in one specific US timezone. THAT should show some fireworks, right? ;)

If you don't have access to fireworks shoot one of those ring of fire shots that I've seen do well in the challenges. They 'look' like fireworks. :P

Clapping...

Glad somebody said this... I'm fresh out of tact right now and it would not have came out the right way if I did.

most firework stands are still open in the mountain time zone..... what's to stop anyone from getting a box of sparklers and shooting away. Fountains photograph pretty cool too and show up before flat out dark.
