Mostly rained out in San Antonio Texas. The Lackland AFB firewords were supposed to start at 9:45 pm. At 9 pm they started 45 minutes early in pouring rain. I guess lighning danger if they waited. Sooooo then headed for SeaWorld. Too much rain to set the camera up. Tried a few through rain wet windows ... nope but at least tried. I could see the Six Flags Fiesta Texas fireworks in the distance, still raining on that part of town. Radio just said flash flood warning here until 11:15 pm. Well always next year ;(

Hey, at least we got rain! Finally. I suppose I could go out and shoot the kids in the street, but I'm afraid they'd "shoot" back with bottle rockets... |

Eh, normally they're kinda fun, those kid things. With the exception of the whole litter box thing, I do prefer cats, however. Nearly as destructive as two year olds, but you can leave 'em home alone without worrying they'll charge stuff on the internet while you're out. |

Rained out. Which is sort of strange for Colorado where we don't get rain very often. Oh well. |

What the???? Earlier today, this showed up as an open challenge on the homepage!
Now it says members only?!?!
I spent tons of time on my entry and now I can't even submit it. It was probably my best photo so far.
Site admins, please explain!

Okay, so, I just got back from watching and 'shooting' fireworks, only to find that the challenge is members only? I am almost certain that it was an open challenge before I left home today. Maybe I had my eyes crossed?

Ya boom. It let up for a little bit earlier, but now...the skies have opened up.....at least they did in Aurora. Now to pray it stops by morning.

Just got home. Got a MARVELOUS display and for my first time shooting fireworks I must say I am very proud that I read all the tutorials. Just beautiful. It's not Washington DC, but its still fabulous to me! It is a DARN good thing that I have till tomorrow to submit though, or I would have about 6 minutes to get it in! |

It was accidentally announced as an open challenge, then switched, or something like that. Check the latest admin announcement thread and I think it explains it. |

If you read up here in this thread it was "mistakenly" put as an open challenge. Sounds like a good time to pony up and become a member!

In going through mine I am having a tough time choosing. I don't know if the foreground shot is better then the in your face shot. ARRRR. Decisions, decisions... |

Got the answer from the earlier thread - MK's FAQ

I ended up setting up outside of one of the "safe" fireworks areas... still contemplating the pictures as I'm not sure they really grab you. |

Okay, thanks. :(
I guess if I want to show mine, I'll have to post it on the forum.

My buddies got me set up too far away, and all I had was my 50mm 1.8. The fireworks were mostly near the horizon and I had to deal with car lights, street lamps and all. But suprisingly I got one really good frame where the fireworks fill most of the frame. It was a really huge explosion.
I'm happy with it, considering the shooting situation. I never realized just how sharp my 50mm f/1.8 is until tonight. Just tiny amounts of Smart Sharpen were too much.

Just because it's not a holiday in the rest of the world doesn't mean they are being snooty. So what if people can't enter every challenge? It's just one of those things that happens. Sometimes you can enter, sometimes you can't. This isn't a democracy...it's a website that offers a members challenge and an open challenge every week. Any other challenge offered above those is just cake. Why be all angry because there aren't fireworks in your neck of the woods today? All this griping is a surefire way to make sure no one ANYWHERE gets a speed challenge for a long while, I'm sure. |
You go girl! My sentiments exactly.
As a junior high/high school teacher, I have learned that I cannot please everyone all the time...
Same with the SC and the challenges here...not everyone will be pleased all the time about everything...So, SC, just do your best...and thank you for your efforts here.

i have about 120 very nice fireworks shots taken over the past 2 nights, thanks to everyone here for all the tips in these threads the past week. they really helped. Looking forward to August when I get to do some more at a local festival.
now that the fireworks are out of the way, I gotta figure out what to do with the 10 challenge. And then vote for nearly 1000 or more photos ouch!

I reprocessed my entry. Now I don't have a slighest doubt about validity. IMO, it's kick-ass entry. Let's see if voters agree.
