Has anyone sold their images of a big event or similar to a newspaper or news agency? Can anyone tell me how I can go about doing this? I am planning on photographing a very large shark fishing tournament this summer and would like to sell some of the images if possible. I know that even ESPN covers this event, so getting an image sold would be ideal.

Also, i'm in my senior year of college as a photo major and i'm wondering if my school I.D. would be good enough as a press pass for an event like this. I'm planning on photographing the weigh in, so i'm not sure if i'd need a press pass for this event, but want to be on the safe side.

Any help with this situation?
Thanks
-Dennis

Hey longfist,
you need to get in touch with one or all of the editors. Maybe even a writer who may be covering the story. ESPN is going to be a tough egg to crack. They are constantly flooded with (no offense) backyard pros sending them shots of just about everything. Along with ESPN I would contact some of the fishing magazines that are on the local Barnes and Noble shelf. Wish you luck and would love to see the results.

By the way get a copy of an ESPN magazine and check out the first few pages for the publication info. They will list the editors, writers and photogs. They usually have contact info also.

Good Luck
