A while back I was doing unofficial podcasts for DPChallenge and conducted an interview with Larus and later with Rikki. The Larus interview was published but the Rikki interview never made it to publication. Now that I'm getting ready to resume the DPC podcast I'm wondering if it would be offensive or not to post parts of my interview with Rikki prior to his account being banned from DPC. It is my understanding from a brief review of the forums that Rikki had all of his ribbons stripped and his account is currently banned. In the interview I conducted with him, prior to this event, I asked him about the success of his photos, his growth as a photographer, etc. I need suggestions from those who are interested in the podcast. Should I pass on playing any of the Rikki audio and instead look to interview someone new or should I go ahead and post it but perhaps mention the situation in passing. Please understand that I have no ill will toward Rikki. I enjoyed the interview with him a great deal and don't want to offend him or the members of DPC by publishing his interview if that would be the case. Can I get a vote? Should I post his interview or not?

Don't know about others but, I would still be very interested to see what he had to say. Despite the unfortunate turn of events, he was still clearly a talented photographer. |

Thanks for your input. Anyone else? To play Rikki's interivew or not to play, THAT is the question! |

I would suggest you contact Rikki and get his opinion. My guess is that he would not want the interview aired. But if he's ok with it then it would be fine as far as I am concerned. |

By the way, I invite anyone who wants to sound off on the Rikki situation (his loss of ribbons and banning from DPC) to either set up a skype account and talk to me where I can record your thoughts or create a little mp3 recording on your computer and email it to me letting me know what you think. I would love to include sound bites from various DPC members. Record yourself giving your opinion why the baning of Rikki was right or wrong or just sound off to tell Rikki you miss him. All comments would be GREATLY appreciated! |

If it were me, I'd put it on. Let people get all squirmy about the person if they want...
Take the photography details for what they are worth and don't worry about the rest.
His work speaks for itself. Let it.
Of course get his permission too..
I think the sound bites idea isn't a terribly good one.
Too much potential to get too ugly/hurtful and learn nothing useful. |

eschelar, thanks for the input. I have sent an email to Rikki asking him if it would be ok to post the interview, all things considered. I'm waiting to hear back from him. |

I'll hold my breath. ;-) He already gave his permission when he gave the interview. Post it already. :) |

I would say no. He's no longer a member. Some may be interested....I for one am not though. Just my 2 cents though :)

If people don't want to hear it then they don't have to listen to it. That's why speakers have a volume control. ;) |

If you have the guts(not saying I would), it would be great to ask Rikki if he would talk about the suspension. A pod cast with no mention of the issue sort of lacks relevance.

How does one go about listening to the podcasts if one isn't a pod person? |

I would find it fascinating... particularly his thoughts on DPC.

I'd like to hear what Larus had to say. Where do I find that one? |

For the record, I have emailed Rikki to see what he thinks about my posting his interview and asked him if he would like to comment on the suspension. |

lepidus, there is a new website coming soon and the Larus interview will be made available soon. I'll make a notice of it on the forums. Apparently the website will be www.dpcpodcast.com. It looks like the domain name just came up activite but it just has a generic start page right now. Should be working soon. |

You just download the MP3 and play it on your favourite media player. Photowalkthrough.com post all their video Pocast's as QuickTime files. |

In the past I was posting both a link to an rss feed and just the staight mp3 file. Those without a podcatcher of some sort could just click on the mp3 link and most browsers will open the appropriate program needed to play it or will ask if you want to save it to your hard drive in which case you can play the mp3 file with Windows Media Player or your favorite audio program.
The rss feed is special in that if you use a podcatcher software program the rss feed will display all the available episodes or mp3 files that are out there and you can select which ones you want to download in one easy step. Additionally, an rss feed will periodically look for new episodes and when it sees one, depending on your podcather configuration, it will download it for you and it will be waiting for you next time you look for new podcasts to listen to. It really sounds a LOT more complicated than it is. |

bjallen/skiprow
For Skiprow: I am in the process of trying to contact Rikki to see if he would do another interview.
For bjallen: It is my understanding that Rikki was accused of having his friends vote on his pictures which gave him an artificially high score. I'm not sure how the site council figured this out or how much the friends votes effected his total score but it appears they stripped him of ALL of his ribbons and banned his account. I do not know any of the details and hope that I do not have these facts incorrect. |

There is a whole thread on in so let's not get this thread off-track, but to clarify, only the photos in which friend-voting was detected were disqualified. Other photos, namely member challenge entries, remained (along with his abstract food ribbon). It just happened that all his other ribbon winners were from open challenges where friend votes were detected. Had he won other ribbons in member challenges without these votes, they too would remain.

Post the sucker. Looking at his work, I don't believe he'd have done a lot worse without the illicit help. That's what's truly the shame. So I'd be interested in the interview, and his thoughts about the ban would be gravy. Though I suspect you'll not get permission for the podcast or a post-ban interview.
Hmmmmm, thought I'd added a sig file in my profile. Guess that don't work.
Arrrrgggghhhhh.. checkbox! (^%(&*&+()&^**(*&(*&(*
