Ok I'll take care of you when I get home. Guess it is a good thing since my out of shape short ass hasn't actually "taken care" of someone in almost a decade.

OK, I'm offically searching for the word I had in my head just a moment ago...

initimated. That's the word.

I need some advice - does everyone doing this have flashes and reflectors and studio lights and stuff? I have none of the above except the dreaded on-board flash... no studio, no lights, no backdrops. I do have one small piece of white posterboard. I'm open to suggestions, other than to go buy lights and reflectors and such. Can't see doing that since a) I don't plan on doing any portrait photography, and b) I'm moving in the not-to-distant future and am trying to downsize in the personal belongings department.

Natural light is your best friend!

Just use what you have. For a lot of my shots I use my wife's $300 sunlamp for her depression. It's the most expensive light we have but it gives a nice good even light. Good thing insurance paid for it, or my wife would be a raving lunatic right now (oh wait, she's married to me she HAS to be at least a lunatic, just not raving yet).

I have the same stuff as you! I use 500 watt halogen lights, the one's used for painting(maybe you will have to paint when you move so it woudn't really be adding to your belongings :)). If you want o get a cheap soft box buy a white shower curtain and put the light behind it, you will get nice soft diffused light. Then put your posterboard to bounce the light back across the subject. Another suggestion is to get one of those silver reflectors for your car as a reflector, or cover one side of your whiteboard with aluminum foil and use llight from a window. Thats all I got right now.
Good Luck all! I don't think I could make everyday, or else I would try it to.

Not sure I have a light fixture that would take a 500W halogen... and I don't have a sunlamp. :-)

As for natural light - most of that occurs while I'm here at my pesky day job - not much chance of stepping out for a photo shoot while I'm here. I'll see what I can come up with, or just politely bow out.

From the angle of the photo it looks like you're keeping something else safe and sound. *grin*

How many desk lamps do you have? I've been known to place those all around a subject and go to town.
