What is USM? Everyone talks about it. I'm assuming it's a PS tool, so how do you work it?

USM in photoshop is a way to increase image sharpness... it was inherited from film processing and thats why it got its name..
USM in Canon is a feature in lenses USM= Ultra Sound Motor |

USM in regards to editing is "unsharpen mask." See the following tutorial for a good explanation as well as instructions for implementing it: link
Also, I think the Canon version of USM is Ultra Sonic Motor. :-)
