I have photoshop 7 and a cannon S900 but can't seem to print an 8x10
I change the print settings to 8 but it automatically changes the height to 10.66
then i have to cut the pic to fit how do i resize and print 8x10? thanks

Rectangular marquee tool. Select 'constrain ratio' set it to 8 x 10.
Select the area you want to actually see. Image->crop.
resize, or maybe even resample, depending on what you need after that,
but at least your ratio should be correct.

you will have to crop off that extra .66. another way, which i wouldnt recommend, is to do it buy bringing up image size and selecting "resample image" you will then have to deselect "constrain proportions". then in the document size enter in the desired dimensions, in this case you want an 8 x 10. the downside to doing this is by turning off "contrain proportions" it will distort your image. it will take that 10.66 and squeeze it together to 10". so the only way to do it if you are printing out of Photoshop is to crop your image to the proper proportions. as mentioned before the constrain ratio setting is the easiest way on your marque tool. use the marque tool to select the cropping you want and then chose "crop" from the image menu.

my method, which may not be an option for you, is i import my whole uncropped image into quark xpress and then size the image in that program by adjusting the image window. |

Or, if you don't want to crop anything from the print -- set the long side to 10 -- then the short side will be under 8 (not as big, perhaps, as you'd like), but everything will print on the page without cropping.

| If you are using one of the later Microsoft Windows OS, Photo Editor is packaged with it and allows you to constrain your print without having to crop it first. Also, MS-Picture-It has the same feature. |
