Ever tried Thorlos?

I am as well its so much fun giving! And recieving isnt bad either.

For those of you that dont know how to strike out your wish once its been granted use this [ strike] before the line you want struck out but without the space. Add this to the end [ /strike] again no space and it should look like this.

Y'all so rock! Thanks for the suggestions. I have had Thorlos before - will see what I can find available via internet, or will see if I can find them locally. Part of the problem is I rarely wore socks in Texas. :-)

Aw, you're so sweet... don't worry, I can live without the Lucky Charms. If anyone does have money to spend on fulfilling a wish of mine I'd rather they purchase one of those conservation acres from the //www.worldlandtrust.org!

Thanky! :D

4. A delivery from Dinkel's Bakery in Chicago.

what exactly does this involve? time? money?

It basically involves a trip to the bank and wiring some money and a couple of emails with a friend of mine who works at the slum. He will email you the kids who need sponsors still and you can pick from the info, then he will send you banking info to wire the money. It costs about 125.00 USD a year for primary kids and about 425.00 a year for high school kids (tho I am sure a few people could pitch in to make a high school kids pricce) this also includes room and board at a school most of the year vs. the slum and they get uniforms and food. And the recently flooding has caused a lot of damage in the slum, many of the make shift houses have had there roofs caved in. It is a good time to offer help.

This sounds very cool!! Would this also entail a sponsor sending stuff to their sponsored kid? (cards, emails, birthday gift, etc)?? Kind of like those things you see on TV? I'm always skeptical of the ones on TV because I'm not sure where my money goes.

Well, you in theory could send things also, but would need to be sent DHL or UPS as the regular kenyan mail system cannot be trusted, I used to try to send stuff and it never got there via regular mail, the drag is if you send stuff via DHL or UPS it is ridiculously expensive. So I guess just a matter of if you could afford to or not, but I am sure the gifts would be cherished.
As far as the TV ones go--at least world vision and care I can tell you many of the people that I have met in kenya were the very proud and lucky to have been sponsored by these agencies. I now deal direct with kenyans but I have been very suprised to find so many young adults who have been educated thanks to well wishers. They also tend to be the people who manage to get jobs after school because hey speak english and can work in tourism. (sorry not wanting to highjack this thread)

Having meet Peter, the missionary responsible for this program, I can say that he goes out of his way to make a difference in the quality of life for these people. He got a call one night at 1 AM when developers were trying to bulldozes one of the areas under his care. Amazing work he does.

Anyone wanting to see images of the people that would benefit, PM me and I'll send you a link. I have private images that I'll share, but I'm not prepared to post the link publically, yet.

Adding a new wish to mine. So many people here have already been very generous to me, and I'm hoping that can extend to this one for someone else. This was posted in Denver's LiveJournal community today.

"We would like to have cards, postcards, letters, cool pictures... whatever... sent to our 7 year old son. We don't have any family and so he doesn't ever get those kinds of things... cards on the holidays (except for one woman that has adopted him as her surrogate grandson which has been so cool for him). The reason that this is so close to my heart is that we are in the process of adopting him and he has had a rough life... even while being with us. He has some issues and we think that it would be helpful for him to know that he is acknowledged in the world and that people do care.

Paul Lee
P.O. Box 19854

USA

If you would like to have your kid write him or you write.... he can answer letters. He loves animals, vehicles, keys and that kind of stuff.

Thank you in advance and Happy Holidays."

I will mail each of these to the first two (U.S.) people who promise to provide them with a good home and gainful employment. PM me with your request.

Update: Woody is being shipped off to a good home in California. Woodette is still sitting here whining about how nobody could ever love her. She has self-esteem issues and doesn't cook or clean or anything, but she does pose nude. So-- who wants a Woodette for Christmas? Did I mention I will even spring for U.S. shipping? PM PM PM me. :)

Yeah, sorry about that, but hers was revoked when she got busted for being a courier for the Colombian drug cartel. ---ok, so she has a bit more "baggage" than I previously mentioned, but she's been off the crack for 3 days now, hasn't stolen anything of significant value from me recently, and swears she wants a fresh start.
