I think I'll work on one for 2006 as well, see how it looks! :)

Can't even trace to an instance or circumstance where this change occurred. But perhaps I can reverse this lull and get the 'spirit' back.
How/when/where are we sharing the blog addresses? |
I figure we'll give people a couple days to see this thread and get their sites set up. Then I'll edit the first post here with people addresses, though I'm not much of a code monkey. So if anyone else is good at the code, it would be good to speak up now! :-) |

I'm going to make a video using every single photo I take, even outtakes, rubbish ones, out of focus ones, under exposed ones, bright white ones, every single one. It's gonna be about 5-10 frames per second, whatever works best, as a kind of flickbook of my year.
Might look quite cool at the end of it! I'll have a rolling date along the bottom too if it's not too much work :P |
Do you have a good way to link a sequence of discrete shots together into a video clip ? I was playing with this over the weekend and am thinking of automating some of it.
I'm not convinced a lensbaby is the best choice though. Photoshop seems to be able to churn out gifs, quicktime or flash animations, but setting it up seems cumbersome. Automating it would be pretty easy though.
800k gif sample 8.5 fps is nice for doing this though :)

5 finger focusing with a lensbaby while walking past and turning around two people who are jumping around doesn't make for the best or most accurate focusing though.
I should try it with a lens that will actually autofocus and doesn't blur 90% of the scene. Might have more luck :) I'd like to do more of them, which is why I'm thinking about writing a script to put them together automatically from a list of files. Shouldn't be hard to write.

I thought the focusing going in and out was an interesting effect.

I used a free program to create animated gifs in the past, but I cannot remember the name of it for the life of me.
I just batch processed all the images using PS into gifs of the right size, then using the program, you simple tell it what folder the images are in and how fast you want it to cycle them and hit "Go".
Takes a few seconds and it's done. |

I've done it that way before too - but CS2 added animation support for animated gifs, flash and quicktime - I'd rather just use all that as a one stop shop.

Found a slightly improved way to do things in Photoshop. Get all the shots in layers, then use 'Make Frames from Layers' in the animation palette and it will at least automate that part. Stacking a set of images into their own layers is simple with a modified version of this script.
The trick is going to be working out a way to do this for a lot of images that doesn't require terabytes of memory. Suppose I'll just need to do something more sensible with opening and closing images, rather than having every frame opened in a huge layered stack.

I found that to make file sizes manageable for upload/download, I had to resize the images to a pretty small size.
I made this one a while back of my garage being demolished. I accidentally loaded the full size files into the gif maker and the resulting file was a few hundred MB. |

I may well regret this but, I'm in too.. Last year I made it through 'till Feb 21st, hopefully this year I'll make it further :-)
If anyone is interested I still have the full links list from the PAD 2006 bloggers on my blog (and I plan on leaving it there).. Do we have a list for 2007?

We don't have the list set up yet.....are you offering?? :-) :-) Hopefully people start posting their soon. As soon as I figure out how to archive my 2006, I think I'm gonna use the same blog for 2007. Or is that not typically how it's done? |

I've got my blog site ready to go. Are we posting links here to our blogs or will there be a post specifically asking for links? It's probably a good idea to make a new post asking for links. |

Test Video
I used Jan and Feb from last year, as the RAW conversions were taking forever. I'll build it as I go along in 2007 so it'll be easier. I think the result looks pretty cool even if it is full of rubbish outtakes and unedited shots :) |

I joined up for the Photo a day last year and this is the first post I posted on 12-31-05 Well you should see him today. Or better yet, look for my first post on my 2007 PAD . That little guy is now 250 pounds and if there were a market for slobber I would be rich.
Yep count me in for 2007 I am all setup and ready to post.
I thought it would just be fun when I started this last year, little did I know how hard it is to stick with. I didn't post every day and some of my images posted were leftovers from 05 and 04 since I didn't feel like taking pictures those days. However, I have to date posted 316 different posts with many more images then that, I loved every minute of it. I don't get a lot of comments but appreciate everyone who does comment. I have improved my photography over this past year and the PAD is one of many reasons I have. Thanks all and let's do it again.
