Hello everybody, I am new to these forums and photography but I am enjoying both. I would like to get some feedback on my first finished photo. Here it is:

Anything would be appreciated!

Composition is nice. Looks like nose is in focus while the eyes aren't. Usually you want the eyes to be very crisp. I think just the right amount of sharpening has been applied. Nice job.

Cute dog. As noted by Routerguy, the depth of field could be a bit greater. You want to focus on the eyes and then at least have everything in focus from there to the tip of the nose and to just behind the ears. Also, you need to get some light into the eyes. But not straight in or you will get reflection. You want to light them from an angle so it lights up the clear part without reflecting back. Just like with people, the eyes are the windows to their soul.

You did get down to his level, which is good. Most people take a picture of their pets looking down at them (most parents do this with their kids too) with the animal looking up. To get a better shot, you need to either get down to their level or put them on something (I use a platform a lot) to bring them up to your level. So weither you intended to or not, you did good there. :D

Cute dog, nice color. And they make such great models too. Mine have learned that when I get my lights out and set them up that it's going to be a good time had by all. They will even jump up on the platform and push each other off to be the one to get their picture taken. Or crowd each other when I have them on the floor. It's a riot sometimes and sometimes I have to block the livingroom except for the dog or dogs I'm working with.

Thanks routerguy and Mike for the comments! It really was just a spur of the moment photo that just luckily came together like that. I did notice later the nose was the point of focus so that's something I'll definitely work on. Thanks again!
