Thanks! I have noticed that there is the teensiest uptightness factor with the WPL stuff.....and I was afraid I wouldn't qualify. I consider myself funner than the average bear!
BTW, I just looked at your profile and you seem to have cat issues.
I have *seven* cat issues.....they're *ALL* nuts! My one......"The Princess" just came into the room yowling with a bangle in her mouth for me to throw for her. You ever heard of a cat that plays fetch?
This be her..... //www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=425444

I like the electrification. Pretty darn good shot for 1/8 sec, too. I was in awe of some of the cat portraits in the recent pet challenge - I have NO idea how they get their cats to sit still and pose. Mine refuse.
So here's a dare - can you get all seven in a family shot? Bwaaahhahaha! (My sister has five - I can get at most two in the same shot - that's it.) |

Welcome to team suck NikonJeb, and in particular to team Entropy... It happens. With your participation we may managed to scrape enough entries to take part in the weekly addition of scores within team suck, that determines who gets the booby prize for temporary lack of suckage (IE an obscenely high score).
I see that you've chosen to follow the dark side of Nikon but, hey, noone's perfect. ;) |

I'll also add my welcome to you, NikonJeb. Enjoy and take advantage of all the great people in this group. Anyone would be glad to offer you support at any time.

You don't get cats to sit still......one out of a hundred times they will deign to sit still and you better:
A. Have your camera right there, ready with the right lens and on.
B. Move quickly, yet slowly so as not to offend/disturb them.
C. Be quick about it, damn you, I've got things to do!

Indeed. I think that the people who bemoan cat photos in challenges etc. simply have no idea how much effort it takes to get a decent one. Mine have a very annoying habit of moving from a fantastic pose the second before the shutter releases. grr. |

Thankee, thankee....I'll do my best to not disturb the status quo with any stellar pics! Somehow, I think I can handle that barring any aberrant miracles! 8>)

Well, HEY!!!!
If the d*mn Rebel didn't have that hokey name and wasn't so tiny and insubstantial in my big fat hand, I'd have one! I had an A-1 for over 25 years and I'm one of those old-school types that feels like a little heft and size is what a *real* camera is all about.
I'm still in the cheap seats as far as affording a really good camera, but I'm happy with my El Cheapo DSLR.

Hey, a general, across-the-board thankee to all you guys for making me feel welcome. I dunno whether it's a misery-loves-company thing, or whether y'all are really just that nice, but I'll take it either way!
I won't promise great results, but I will be diligent and maintain my commitment.....or is it that I'll *be* committed???? 8>)

This was originally to be my B&W portrait entry, but I couldn't figure out how in my &*%$#@$#%& CS2 how to fix the "blasted" stripe on his nose. I also haven't figured out how to put thumbnails in these posts.
Or maybe....
SUCCESS!!!!

Welcome Jeb! Team Suck is a great place to be. I can't give you the specifics, but if you know how to get a Team Entropy logo in your signature go ahead. It is there for the use of all Entropy'ers.

I am currently using this bit of code -
The *true* genius has no idea what he's doing [ img ]//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/50641/orig/409996.jpg[ /img ]
Except remove the spaces around the brackets. |

It's image no 409996. If you put that number in the box that comes up when you click on the Insert-Thumbnail-Link-to-Site-Image button (second in from the right above the composing message window) then it shows itself in the message, thus:
.
In order to have it in your signature, you have to do some sort of code-y thing-y, erm...
//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/50641/orig/409996.jpg
with img in square brackets before and /img in square brackets after ought to do it...
Snarf away
By the way, 'dark side' is now officially known as 'world of available light' in New Nikonspeak.

hey, nice cat shot! i find if you drug them with catnip, eventually they'll crash and you can get static shots of them then. of course, they'll look like strung-out junkie cats, and your house will be destroyed, but that's a small price to pay for your art...
i find a good way to fix blown highlights in cs2 is with a multiply layer. thre are porbably details in the highlight that just need to be brought out. i find it much more effective than burning. it's not legal in basic editing though.
so: duplicate your layer. change the blending mode to multiply (the menu on the top left of the layers box click on it and you'll get a whole bunch) create a black masking layer by alt+clicking on the third button from the left on the bottom of the layers box rectangle with a circle inside). you'll get a little black box beside the thumbnail of your multiply layer. then select the paintbruch tool, choose white paint, and paint in what you would like to be darker. play with the opacity to et the effect you want.
easy peasy lemon squeezy.
to correct blown highlights or underexposed areas in basic go to the image drop down menu, and choose adjustments. then find shadows/highlights (near the bottom of the list) click on that, and it does some kind of tone mapping thing that evens stuff out.
and, yeah, steal it from someone elses post!

Check the box that says "show signature" when you are posting.
Edit: forget the above, remove the space from between .jpg [/img]

And just one mo' time!!!!
Okay, I give up for now.....
I gotta go to the grocery store, check on a flash unit, look at a D40 for my daughter, get a CD player for my car, submit a resume, and other errands.
Maybe I can "get it" later.

See my post above for the code you need to get the logo in your sig. Just copy it from my post, past it into your signature preferences and delete the spaces within the square brackets.

I find putting them in my light box works well, Cats like to be in a box or small space when afraid so they seem comfortable.

Hmm. Ours would probably destroy the light box.
And that would pose the added issue that I'd then have to dismantle said light box afterwards, and squeeze it back into the bag. A feat that I've only managed once. |

My cat manages to remove herself from the photo during the shutter lag, I have lots of shots of grass where there was a cat when I pushed the button. |

Surely (and I know you're name isn't Surely) since you're in IT you can, umm, "exempt" a box or two from the reports... otherwise I fear the famous posthumous comments will be fewer and fewer, and that would most definitely not be a good thing. |

Nikon Forever. Actually, the reason I went with Nikon was that the price was more affordable. The D50 was about $500 less than the Rebel. |
