For the record, I quit all microstocks when PD responded to this thread. Since then I am represented by only PD and Alamy....adding MyLoupe to the group would be nice, but we'll see if they will work with me within my framework.... they didn't want to before.

amazing... so where's my PM huh??? :0P I did basically the same thing, but haven't been real persistant in keeping up with the uploading!

How are you doing Cindi? I thought that you'd be just perfect for PD because of the requests, but they weren't exactly what I expected... I too am at Alamy & PD and I know Alamy just put out a wants for the Southwest- perfect for me :0) now just to send off another CD!!!!

Hey Laura. I can't blame Alamy for wanting your images. PD either for that matter. I'm preparing my 2nd CD for Alamy - so far about 300 shots, I'm editing every chance I get and when they're all sized and ready I'll send them off with a kiss! :) I've had fun shooting for and submitting to the buyers' requests at PD, but no sales yet there. I too got a bit lazy around first of the year, but I'm back on track now. Here's to an excellent stock year! :D

I was curious how you were doing in sales at PD Cindi. I read your thread awhile back about them and decided to join with them as well. I really like their format how they list requests but no sales to date either. I was beginning to get a complex... :-)

I think we got in with them at a good time, rumor is PD's client base has expanded lots lately. We just need to keep plugging along and get those shots uploaded!! :D Good luck with your sales, Jenn.

Thanks, you too Cindi! Just curious, are you signed up as a commission or subscription based photographer? I just went the commission route so far.

Yup, commission too. Might change it later if sales really pick up, but I think this is the smart route for now. :)

Thanks Cindi- this thread was the perfect kick in the pants to make me go upload more!!! :0)

I really am suprized that you haven't had any sales- you do so well on the challenges here I thought you'd be knocking off the requests! But, they are a lot more specific than I had assumed regarding locale and things just out of my reach, basically! Now- get some good jet skiing pics tonight!!! :0P Good luck out there!

I just signed up with Alamy. I'm a little perturbed that in this digital age, we're supposed to send a dvd/cd to them rather than using ftp or some web-based java applet. Is this due, somehow, to them being in another country?

Nope, its due to their old-fashioned way of accepting images. It's being fixed, they say "late this summer" we will be able to upload directly.

I also liked how, immediately after signing up, they sent me a link to information that I had to fill out. And then, immediately after filling it out, they send another email that said, having filled it all out, I could ignore all that. :)

I think I'll wait for then to begin with them.

That's what I'm waiting for too. ;)

Even though I signed up with them already, I'm going to wait til they have the upload thing figured out before I submit anything. I want to come up with a new top 10 when my light tent gets here (ordered it a few days ago). Maybe by the time I have ten more fantastic wonderful images, they'll be ready with the uploadin'.

Ok, I'm hoping someone is still paying at least a little attention to this post.

I got involved with micro sites. The idea of making money from my photos was cool, considering most of them were from a crappy 3MP camera. Then came my DSLR.. and the discovery of sites such as Alamy, myLoupe, and Photographers Direct.

I want out of the micro sites.. period. I have to admit, what I've read here has really been discouraging. There's all of this talk about how you shouldn't sell yourself short, microstock is evil, etc, etc. Well, maybe I was naive when I first signed up.. but the whole idea of denying people simply because they have micro sites available seems to be unnecessary punishment.

I applied to myLoupe this past week, and am hoping that my indication of my desire to cut ties with micro sites will help push the application through. Since reading that some of the macro sites peruse this forum, maybe you guys should consider a temporary approval, pending deletion of all current micro accounts. I'd certainly go that route.. even if it meant giving up whatever I'd accrued short of a micro payout.

If myLoupe was to request that I removed all of my micro images today, they'd be on their way out as fast as I could be deleting them.

I guess I'm just ranting/venting from a rather worried position. Granted I can understand why macro sites wouldn't want work available through them to be found on micros. It's a totally valid position. I just hope they're not going to punish people solely for having been involved in micro. It completely overlooks the possibility that those photographers have wised up about micros taking advantage of them.

Both micro and macro sites have their place. There are quite a few people at DPC that are making a lot of money from the micro sites.

Comparing the two models is like comparing apples to oranges.

As far as the macro sites not wanting you to participate in a micro site, I can see that if it's the same images. If it's entirely different images then I don't see the problem.

I agree with you completely, I'm just worried that my application to myLoupe will be rejected solely because I am involved with micro sites.

I have to admit, I find it rather silly that a macro site would object to anyone using micro as an outlet for their older 3MP or 4MP point and shoot images from their pre-DSLR days. Most of what I put up on micro would never have flown at macro purely because of the image size.

I haven't had my DSLR for very long, and I haven't uploaded any images to micro in some time. I know my shots are worth more than what micro offers, which is what prompted the application to myLoupe.

It just sorta threw me off that so much of this post's discussion revolved around photographers being ignorant for being on micro sites. There was so much encouragement to move away from micro and up to macro. That just seems like less and less an option from all of the talk about rejection purely for involvement with micro sites.

I tried to indicate this on my application, before I caught wind of possible rejections based on microstock involvement. I'm just trying to keep hopes up. I must admit, seeing that people were recruited for macro based on their portfolios here was a big encouragement. Really I'm just hoping that my involvement with microstock wasn't the equivalent of shooting myself in the foot for macro applications.

I still had stuff on micro sites when I applied at MyLoupe. They replied the same way.

I deleted the micro stock and wrote to MyLoupe telling them I had done that as a show of good faith.

I've been with MyLoupe for a year now.

If you don't mind me asking, what was the time line for all this? Between initial rejection, micro deletion, wait until reapplying, and then the wait for acceptance?

I'm at the point now where I'd delete EVERY last one of my images on microstock in a moment's notice if it would help my myLoupe application.

I think it's pretty clear that it makes all the difference in the world. Why not just do it?

You know what, you're completely right.
Thanks for the short and sweet kick in the rear.

I guess it's time to start the deletion process. Hopefully I can take them all down before they get to reviewing my application.
