Something just dawned on me. The weekend of April 7-8 is Easter. That may not be a good weekend for some.

I got group rates of $67 per night at Days Inn except for Easter weekend. It goes up to $77 per night.

I'm still good with that weekend, Easter or not. It may actually work to our advantage with less tourists around.....maybe. Hard to say though, I've been there on COLD wintery days and seems there are the same number of people as on a warm spring day.

I'm still good with it. Cindi, you're in charge of the weather. Keep it mild and sunny. :)

I'm still in for the weekend of the 7th also and looking forward to meeting everybody.

I have to work that weekend. I am already planning a pitstop at your house on the way down to my Mom's this summer or on the way back home.

July 2nd or July 9th/10th

We have a nice group shaping up. Gonna be a fun GTG! :)

I just remembered another fun thing we could do while we're in the old part of the city... about 4 times a day a giant boat leaves the docks and takes a 45 minute cruise through Matanzas Inlet. Its a huge double-decker boat, great for photographing off all sides! ;) I don't remember the cost, but I'll check if anyone is interested.

So who is interested in staying at the Days Inn? I can call her tomorrow and book the group if interested.

I'm in, but was it the $67 or $77?

We will be going but we are going to be bringing the camper. Its easier with the kids. We will be staying here.

Campground

Its right on the beach so my hubby and kids will be busy while I am out. :)

For Easter weekend it is the more expensive rate (still not bad though). I'll get the exact charges tomorrow.

I remember a lot about a place in St. Augustine that I stayed at before except for the name. It was near old downtown and I really liked it. It was across the street from the water and next door to a great, two story restaurant with the best jambalaya. But what I can't remember is the name.

Soooo, Days Inn sounds fine with me if that is where the majority is staying.

I know just where you're talking about, I think that one is the Holiday Inn. Lovely old-looking building between some genuinely onld ones - there's a great mexican resturant on the corner beside it too. Unfortunately, that location is primo and tends to stay full.

From the Days', you guys could buy a train ticket that will get you anywhere in the city for a couple of bucks, but the trains are slow because they stop contsantly. I'll have my jeep, but I'm just wondering who else will have a car when they arrive or if maybe I should rent a van for Gator Farm. Its about 6 or 7 miles from the old city.

No, it was definitely not a Holiday Inn. It was not a chain hotel/motel. It was a little rustic looking, and next door to the two story, black and white restaurant that I mentioned (or a couple doors down).

It was on the west side of the intracoastal waterway. There was a nearby bridge to the Atlantic on the south side and to the north was old downtown within walking distance. The parking lot for the motel was in front and afforded a view of a lot of boat at anchor. It seemed to have a name reminiscent of something Spanish maybe.

I really wish that I could remember, but again, wherever the crowd is staying is fine with me.

There are only a handful of buildings on that street before it hits the town square, but I don't know all of them. I do remember a B&B style place there - has some little cafe tables out front.... tell ya what, I'll drive down one day this week and make note of the buildings facing the water near the bridge! :)

idnic, I think that I found the place. It's the Monterey Inn right on Avenida Mendendez.

The prices that I saw tonight range from $49 to $105 per night, so I don't know which is realistic. I'm not suggesting that we change from the Days Inn though, I just needed to figure it out now that we started talking about it. However, if it is reasonable enough, it is right on the water and right next to the historic downtown area.

I just checked the availability and rates for our dates and got a range of $149 - $169.

I have a mini-van that will carry 6-7.
