mushroom is definitely a fungus ...
however, challenge rules do state an 'open minded' approach. so since it's unlikely there'll ever be a fungus challenge, i voted the mushroom as if it were a fruit or vegetable ... :)

And if they ever did state an "open minded" approach we would have a 100 page forum debate on what exactly "Open Minded" is. ;-) |

Thats exactly how i scored images with mushrooms in it. I didnt mark them down because of the fact, just wanted to debate the issue.

You should:
* keep an open mind to other interpretations of the challenge topic.
i know it says 'should' ... but i think that means allowing a fungus into the fruit and vegetable challenge ... besides i'd hate to be seen as discriminatory! :)

| my score is still crashing ... from 6.2 last night ... now all the way down to 5.16xx ... I realistically expected about 5.7-5.9 on this shot ... I sure wasn't prepared to swallow this bitter pill!! |

While mushrooms are all fungi, they are also the fruiting bodies of fungi, just as are fruit (ie, they carry the genetics of the parent). Vegetables also have fruiting bodies ie, peppers, tomatoes, etc. The differences can be pretty blurred so they all count to me.

My score has been all over the place. This morning when I woke up: 5.7
I checked mid morning at work: 6.508
Now, it's at 6.38
I like the mid-morning voters better.

I had 2 photos for this challenge. One was more artistic than my entry but fear of 4's kept me from entering it.
