The challenge says "Red must be the dominant hue of your photo."

I wondered if anyone thinks it would be out of place if red is the dominating color of the subject, but not of the photo. For example, I might want to take a picture of a red subject on a yellow background to bring more attention to the red of the subject. However, I would then say the dominating hue of the photo is yellow. Does anyone think this would be inappropriate for the "Red" challenge?

And what about the opposite? What if red is the dominating color of the photo, but the subject is bright green?

Personally, I think both should be allowed for this challenge, although I think the first fits the challenge just a little bit better. What does everybody else think?

I think if your subject is red it would be okay.

It's doesn't say anything about having to be all red, just dominant. So I would think another color is ok as long as it isn't dominant. Plus a photo that is just all red would seem boring. I would seem more interesting to have another minor color to contrast against the red.

Khanhx: I wasn't asking if the photo had to be all red. I was asking

1) Do you think it would be appropriate to have a photo dominated by a non-red color, so long as the subject is red? For example, a bright red ball in a field of green grass. In this example, there may be a lot more green in the photo than red, but you could still say red is the dominating color.

2) Do you think it would be appropriate to have a photo with a non-red subject so long as there is a lot of red in the image? An example is a bright yellow high heel shoe in the middle of a pile of shiny red apples. In this example, the picture may be mostly red, but the subject is not red.

There is no question that non-red colors can enter the photographs. I just wondered if people thought either of these types of examples does not belong in the "Red" challenge.

i agree with the first but the second does make sense too. the dominating red hue should strike out more in the picture thats "the dp challange" if someone submits a red background like a wall with a pot of yellow flowers in the center, who to say that's wrong, it's up to the voters to decide and judge, and you just can't please every voter. and if anyone submit a red wall as a background it better be specatcular to get my vote, may the best background or subject win, BUT don't be suprised if someone sumits both the subject and the background as two diffrent hues of red. it come back to the eye of beholder who likes that red over the other red,and the other voter likes the same vise-versa and the debate goes on. who ever get the vote is what really counts...and that the beauty of it :)
