ROFLMAO! Maybe the 3 of us could share the brown...

While the three of you are sharing the brown in "Streets", I have the brown in "Hate" covered.

I have a tree shot. Or two or three. And I have a street shot. Actually two street shots and I'm torn as to which to submit. It's not a case of which will score higher since neither will score "high" and I really dearly like both of them alot. I'll send 'em to mom and see what she says. Keep in mind this is the woman who liked my Water entry...

And I may, with the use of a somewhat massively sized shoehorn, have a shot for "Love". It will get slammed for being DNMC by those who want hearts and flowers, but I think it's really cute. Actually, I just want to stick it in a challenge.. sue me. :-)

I don't think it would be a bad thing to have a WPL team. I really don't see that anything we do now would even change. It'd be a stat somewhere. And just think how much fun it would be if we actually beat somebody! If we didn't, so what? I know some of those teams are wickedly competitive and put a lot of pressure on themselves to "produce" - and I think it gets stressful to some, too. I certainly wouldn't look at it that way or want it to be that way. Just kinda of a fun way to fly the Team Suck flag.

Deb, I feel the same temptation. And early in Team Suck days I got a kick out of going to WPL threads and telling them which teams were beaten by Team Suck. The fun wore off, however, because they were so damn gracious about it. blech!

On the other hand, I also feel some of what Mary is feeling: that Team Suck is an alternative to WPL, a safe haven from that environment. It most certainly does NOT function that way for everyone, obviously enough, since a handful of suckers are in the WPL, but that function should still be available for anyone who wants it.

And as WPL moves closer to the center of dpchallenge, this need for an alternative will only increase. In fact, I feel bad for people who do not like the WPL sort of competition, but also do not want to be associated with "Sucking." They are forced to be lone wolves. Some people like being lone wolves, but others might feel they are being left out.

p.s my fruit and veggie is over 5.5, with 5 dnmc comments! woo hoo!

That is an exceptional accomplishment!

I get the deal about the WPL. Probably best to stay as is - individual Suckers can join teams without losing their status at Team Suck if they don't wish to leave the Team Suck lounge. Works for me!

I agree. I'm definately not WPL material. I'd crack under the pressure!!

Don, that's a great score for DNMC! I have 8 very nice comments with a 5.4 (even though it says 7, lol).

thank you so much catherine, and I take it for an enormous compliment that you took it for an enormous compliment
:)
really, thank you so much!!

I like this feeling of being opposite to something. maybe this is silly but I enjoy it. I am also in one of the wpl teams and we do trigger happy there too, but that is a different feeling.
I like both feelings.
if you don't push me out of here I would love to be here!
I can't see a problem in combining these two things. maybe I just like diversity.

I have nothing in any of the challenges. My camera is not working right and it's in the shop. Hopefully out this week and I'll be inspired by something. Spring is trying to show it's self here so maybe that will help.

OK, I did it, now I only have to wait. What you might ask? ( or in reality “who cares“?) I ordered a 50mm F1.4. Found it online for $300, I would have rather bought it at a store, you know instant gratification, but best price in Las Vegas was $100 more. So soon I should get better in low light, and shallow DOF pictures.

I love this lens - this is my standard walkaround lens that I share between my film and digital camera.

I love this lens, too!
and use it with f1.4 almost al the time:) you can get fantastic effects and very weird unexpected results if you experiment with 1.4. and I like that photos are sharp and good even in very low light.

Kashi, I've had that happen more than once - it's kinda fun, in a way. You can run your own race to see who wins. :-)

Svetlana, thanks for the comment and the compliment! I did try some perspective correction (it's more crooked than that) but I'm sure there's a better tool for what I want to do that I just don't know about or know how to use. I only know the perspective correction when cropping. And I agree, the window needs just a tad more straigtening. If you know of another way, I'd love to hear about it!

Deb, I'm not quite sure it's the right way, but this is how I usually do it:
copy a background to a new layer
increase canvas size of the background: 50% maybe or even 100% - if you are going to do a lot of perspective correction
edit: transform: perspective - correct it here
sometimes I use scale/rotate/al the other tools there are there under edit: transform because sometimes it's not enough with only perspective correction.
I try not to crop if it's not nesessary.
if there's some space left which is not filled with canvas, but a part of that increased canvas - I just use clone stamp tool to "add" the missing part of the image.
hope this helps a bit:) just ask me if there is something unclear,
I found one cool place to shoot street and I've been standing there freexing almost every day this week so I'm getting sick now:) and I'm not really controlling what I'm typing...

ah! I forgot of course:
you can also copy the window as another image, make all the corrections there and then just replace the original window with the new one:)

Quick, put something in your goals for 2007. This is definitely a goal-worthy accomplishment.

As for my f&v entry, it has clawed its way up to 4.1503 - not even worthy of a brown ribbon - just plain bad. Well the voters are right, I know its bad, there's no question about that, and I knew it was bad when I entered it. I just don't like to be left out, so I play regardless.

I also have entries for Love, Street Photography, and Free Study. I like my Street entry quite a bit. And now I off to shoot a tree.
02/18/2007 02:54:37 PM · #666
That sorta even makes sense, Svetlana! I shall give it a try after I edit my Street shot one more time. I messed with it so much I think I'll just start over. I'll just do what I know - levels, curves, convert to B&W using channel mixer, maybe some contrast, sharpen, resize, submit. And that's extensive editing for me!

Julianne, make sure trees are in season in your area before you go shooting one. Poor defenseless trees.... (I shot several.)

Just thought I'd share with fellow Team Suck members how badly I suck today. I had what I thought was a fairly decent trees entry. What did I do, put it up in my portfolio instead of into the contest.
I am an absolute fool.
I guess I'll try going out in the morning or pass on it totally since I'll be on a train as of 1 PM.
Dumb dumb dumb.

Jeanne - not a biggie. Just remove it from your portfolio and put it in the challenge. It's not against the rules to stick something in your portfolio, then pull it and enter it. Go for it!!

What she said! Do it now!

I am so glad f&v is almost over. I am tired of looking at a 4.7 every time I log on. My Music shot is at 5.7, and that makes me happy. I don't have anything in any of the challenges for next week yet. No plans for love or hate, too late for a street shot. Maybe I can find a decent tree.
As for the WPL, I don't really want to get involved, and I hope it doesn't take over the whole site. I'm not sure making it "official" was a good thing, but they didn't ask me!

Be sure to read raish's street adventure in Suck Chat.

Thanks all. I pulled it and reentered just as you suggested. Funny thing, I'm sure I'll get a lot of DNMCs. But that is almost a challenge in itself, isn't it?

okay i'm back in it with street. it's not an incredible shot but i like to shoot candid shots when i'm on the street and it's hard to get a perfect unposed shot.

it's a little dark but i'm happy with the catch.

the main thing is i'm jumping back in again. i've been letting entropy down this last few weeks and now i'm ready to represent again.

i'm off to see Todd Snider with crystal tonight and the Great American Music Hall apparently allows photography so we'll see what happens.

I'm really looking forward to voting on Street, as it's my fave type of photography. As for tree, I went to shoot today, but couldn't get anything good - except for an unexpected troupe of hula hoopers communing with nature. Most interesting.

Would have made for great street photography if it weren't for all the trees, and would have made for a great tree photo if not for all the hula hoopers...
