I was out and about this morning and re-shot one of the pictures that I had done before and bombed. I did things a little different this time. Do you think the new one is better?

Bob, I have to be honest - I like the first one better. I thought the rainbow-like colors and warmth added something to otherwise not-so-inspiring architecture. The second one looks more natural, but I'm not sure that bridge is interesting enough on its own to carry a photo, even one technically well taken. I would like to see this at night, with a tapering row of starbursts on all the lampposts when they are lit up. That would add an interesting element, especially if you get get the silhouette of a couple of people up there walking together. just tossing around a couple of ideas...plese feel free to hit the "ignore Catherine" button :-)

Edit to add: Take a couple of ice photos for me up there in *sunny* Michigan. We sure aren't getting any ice down here for any challenges. If I enter Ice, the camera will be in the freezer, I'm afraid.

BTW, big thanks to brookied on my street challenge for adding a "bumbing up" comment!

Hi everyone.

You know what? You can buy a whole lot of stuff for the money donated by:
Kashi
Brookied
Melethia
Kelli
Noraneko
SandyP
Maxaz1
Levyj413

I also took her the image of the Iwo Jima Memorial, where she fell, plus the messages people left for her there. Forty people sent get-well wishes!

As you might imagine, it all made Jeanne very, very happy.

Here are some snapshots from my visit with Jeanne today.

Hi guys, I have two photos in the finals at BetterPhoto.com in the animal category. They are my rooster and pelican photos (I've previously entered them both here). Little chance of winning, but still fun!

Congratulations. Those are very nice shots. How does "Better Photo" work? Obviously, you have to join but can you enter any picture or are they time sensitive like DPC?

Bob, you can enter one photo each day of the month. Usually I enter about six or seven photos (I keep forgetting to put them in, as I am far more addicted to DPC). You might want to try a couple of your architecture shots there!

Congrats! I haven't yet managed to get anything into the finals.

Bob - you just enter into specific categories; dates don't matter. They don't even have to be digital originally, I don't think.

I have a kinda cool story to share, but I have to be a little obscure, because a couple might meet this weeks challenges.
Ok so I went to a sporting event in the area, and of coarse I brought the camera and my good lens (70-200 F-4 L). Being inquisitive, I start walking around before the event, well away from the event viewers area. I met and started talking to a guy with a D30 with a 100-400 F4.5-5.6L IS, when a official says everyone must leave the area, then looks at us and says except photographers. That̢۪s right one guy with a Nikon, one with a D30 and I have full access, never questioned, I pushed it for all it was worth, just looked like I knew what I was doing. Trust me it was absolutely fantastic..

Despite the fact I didn't get much shooting in this week, I have something for Acronym (mom wants a print, so it'll be no better than a 5.3), and Low Key (which will probably not score well and definitely be boring to a large part of the audience, but it's a nice low key kinda shot.)

Darn good stuff in trees. I really like minimal editing challenges - they seem to bring out the best in a lot of folks.

despite the fact that i haven't been posting much this week, i have something for acronym as well. as soon as i'm done with the dishes i'm gonna get it up and give it a go. my last two entries haven't even hit five but i'm going to keep plugging away.

lightening's gotta strike eventually.

I just made an attempt to shoot for acronym. I had a pretty good idea, but my studio shots SUCK!!! I pulled it. Didn't want to stare at a sub-5 score for a week. I really need to take a class on indoor lighting.
*****
And after all that, I ended up etering it after all. I'm guessing a 4.6, prob'ly erring on the side of generosity. So it may be more like a 3.6 Maybe I can earn the brown without even trying! Don did it once, dammit, so can I!

TEAM SUCK TAKES THE RED!!!! Huge congrats to Darren ( Brookied) for his awesome shot in Street Photography!!

Catherine, remind me after the Low Key challenge and I'll post a shot of my "set up" for that shot. You'll get a kick out of my "studio".

Thanks folks,
I am really pleased with my shot. but the next challenge is with us and I am failing very badly. Acronyms is bombing and i really don't know why apart from people know knowing what my subject is?

Strange i get a Red today and a Brown next week...LOL ;-)
