Team Suck is opening the nominations for two distinguished sucker awards.
If you have ideas for someone who should get an OOBIE or a YAPPIE, please post your suggestions in this thread.
An OOBIE sucker is awarded to an "Out Of the Box" entry in a DPChallenge, something that meets the challenge in a creative fashion that DPC voters might not have properly appreciated. It's helpful to have a statement or even a poem about why you are making the nomination for the OOBIE. Please include the username of the photographer.
A YAPPIE sucker is given to a commentor for either a particular comment or a history of great comments. For the YAPPIE, listing a representative comment with a photo would be, as Martha would say, "a good thing".
Yappie Hall of Fame
This set of nominations will close Saturday, 24feb2007. |

I'd like to nominate jdannels for a Yappie.
If you need me to come up with a comment and a pic, pick pretty much any pic out of the Where You Live project.....he's just been amazing.
I know he has commented on most of mine in that project.....I will be happy to reference particular pics if you want me to....
It's almost like he has NO life!
He's sharp, knowledgeable, and kind.
ETA: Here's a good'un!
He's honest about a glaring flaw, yet he's nice about it and offers a suggestion.
"I like the effect with the texture except the top right corner. Something I haven't tried but you could maybe do for a challenge is to do the effect on a new image layer and fade the effect way back and it feels more like a photo type filter. I haven't tried but might be interesting."

Here we have someone sticking an apple into something in his backyard and finding exquisite, exotic beauty. By transforming the mundane without disguising the mundane, hywind has managed to fulfill one of the greatest goals of photography while still avoiding a high score. OOBIE to the max.
But Hauxon took it a step further by putting a plastic apple on some kind of nasty polymer couch, and bringing us right into a mad Victorian scientist's sketchbook. He rocks the box!!

I would like to nominate noraneko for a YAPPIE. Not because of how many comments she leaves, even though she does, but because of the type of comments she leaves. example.
First, please note you got six 10's for this shot, which is great. In other words, a lot of people really love this photo!
I'm middle-of-the road about this photo. What I love: the perspective, the expression, and the snow on the dog's jowels. Really gives a great sense of playfulness and captures the essence of the moment. What kept me from scoring higher: I found the DOF a bit short (would love to have seen the eyes and ears in crisp focus) and wish that top ear were in photo. Finally - and I think this is the biggest element to me - the snow in the background is very bright and drew my eyes away from the subject. It may look different on different monitors, though. I've had that issue myself with several photos, especially my peacock love shot (looks great on my moniter and like absolute *&$% on my hubby's monitor). What I would suggest: perhaps try just a bit of dodging to the whites of your dog's eyes (obviously not too much or he'll end up looking like Casper the Ghost.)
I realize how hard it is to put all those elements together when shooting animals, as the darn things just won't stay still :-)

This is not only out of the box, this unfolds the box so that there is no more box.
a camera is a time machine. this proves it.
I gave this a 9. I underrated it. This is mythic. It is so street photography, with the storytelling power of the masters of this genre, and yet much of DPC was unable to recognize it as such. Classic OOB!!

I don't know if I can nominate...but this comment takes the cake and deserves a 'Laugh-A-Day-Yappie" award.
When I asked that
genie for a wild ride
on a lady...I didn't
expect this.
muur88 - i'm not sure which is oddest, finding a camel that has to pee, finding a drunk guy about to attempt to ride a camel that has to pee, finding a drunk guy about to attempt to ride a camel that has to pee stopped along side a highway, or your title.

Regarding the Yappie ... I see that others nominate non-Team Suck members, so if that is permitted, I would DEFINITELY like to nominate wink (Comments: Made: 1263 Helpful: 1125) who seems to very often find time to drop encouraging and insightful comments on many of my (and others') images.

Third the nomination on Wink. And third or fourth the nominations on the Street shots, though none are really out of the box at all - they're all very, very good Street shots that simply weren't appreciated as such.
