but, they are expecting the noise to be there. :P |
Yeah, when the noise stops it is going to hurt. :)
Strange thing is, I go a heck of a lot faster with my earplugs in (my bike produces app. 105 dB).

Ah ok. I thought the nascar comment was saying it wasn't a sport.

Today's golfers are also usually in great shape. Most of the younger tour members hit the gym regularly. It may not be crucial for their sport, but they do it for the same reason professional drivers do it, it helps with focus and mental toughness. Those are probably the two areas of Daly's game that are missing. He has the skill, but lacks all the non physical elements that could bring in some great scores. |

Professional golfer John Daly injured his back when a woman violated the no-camera rule and the shutter-click distracted him in mid-backswing. Litigation inevitable ... mitigation possible ... commentary by Letterman/Leno/et al a certainty ... |

I'm sure the fact that his lower back is also supporting 100lb+ of beergut has nothing to do with it.

I assume you threw your body under the bike to protect it. Bones heal, parts don't.

Yes, it is insured, but I have to calculate the damage and check what the effect on my insurance premium will be when I let them pay the damage. First estimate is app. EUR 500-1500 depending on the status of my front forks and small stuff(= USD 600-1800).

Had to knock the clutchlever back and lock the mirrors again (the sidestand was gone so can only park against a wall now). It is basically an MX bike (changed to Supermotard) so it can take a hit. Fortunately there was no curb at the end of a 50 feet slide over the asphalt, one of my previous bikes started a short career as airplane that way.
Rode it straight to the bike doctor. :)

Not far besides the truth. For half of the 50 feet slide over the asphalt my leg was still under the bike. I finally let go, only to smash into the bike myself a moment later (that's the ribs, don't make me laugh now it hurts). But my 900 dollar exhaust has been saved from all harm. :)
I wear good gear, saved my butt literally.

Poor baby.... Let blame a camera...instead of a puffed up self ego. Wonder is he would bother playing golf without the sponsorship & cameras? All those people watching must be making a loud breathing noise.... better get them away as well...

i think there was a rule about making sounds when you breathe when the golfer is about to hit the ball or something too... ridiculous, i think? |

i think when Daly plays golf, people with arthritis wouldn't be allowed to attend or watch, coz their bones might make a snapping sound and give Daly another excuse to walk out of the game again, LOL |

Had this strange thought kicking around in my head. What is involved with living on a golf course? I wonder if this means that the woman lived there and the golf course activity takes place on parts of her land. If she was able to legitimately be there without a security check, then it might follow to reason that she is in a position outside of the 'rules of the golf course'. Their rules might simply not apply to her as she may be a landowner upon which the golf course itself is a guest. In this event, they would have no right to enforce a 'no cameras' rule upon her.
From what I read, it seems quite likely that this is the case. If she is allowed access to their grounds without security checks...
Oh and azrifel, you have seriously got to stop reading the forums on your motorcycle's onboard update button DPC uplink while driving...

Most likely its the other way around and the golf course owns the land that she uses for her home. That being the case, she probably should have had to pay and go through the security that everyone else does. Simple photographic solution would be get a longer lens and stay back a bit so you don't annoy the players. |

An interesting thought. Where I grew up in Victoria, the majority of people that lived on lands adjacent to a golf course either had a fence (wherein their presence on the golf course during a closed tournament would be dealt with in other ways) or they were original land owners... Few golf courses in those parts were much older than about 50 or 60 years and in the areas where golf courses are, if you own land, chances are the land has been with your family for some time.
It just strikes me that if she had no right to be there, they would have mentioned it. And if she did have a right to be there that she probably would not have been subject to their rules anyhow. That would make them mad as hell and would make snooty pro golfers even madder. |

I really don't see the issue as whether golf is a sport or not. Of course it's a sport. A sport is a friendly challenge be it team, individual, or even mechanical (ie: NASCAR, sailing, etc.)
What is at play is the fact that this particular golfer was a poor sportsman.
I watched Ken Caminiti go out to the plate with a pulled hamstring and try his earnest at hitting the ball. Most swings landed him on the ground. But he didn't let it stop him. The truth, I think the injury was likely less relevant. I do believe he should have been able to concentrate through it. That's what being a professional is all about IMHO. Furthermore, I have always believed that you don't quit.
Yes, there are times you are so seriously injured that you have to quit. (ie: unable to walk, etc). But heck, if that happens you walk off. Say good game. And you don't lay blame everywhere you can.
I mean, someone could have accidentally walked on a twig that fell from a tree on the course and it'd have made a similar sound to a camera click. Is that excuse to toss in the club and surrender the game? Surely not...
So is golf a sport...yes. But is Daly a good sporsmen...nope. |
