What is this new thread?

Aww, yay :-) I'm glad that there seems to be people in that thread who have appreciated it. (it is here if you've not seen.)

YOU IS WRONG!! The reason you don't score as high as you want is BECAUSE of your artistic genes!! They make it physically impossible for you to take a bland commercial shot, even when you try! They are attracted to the subtle and the small, the divine ordinary, the core of our humanity.

(sorry for shouting. I'm reeling from DST)

I've even tried copying tried and true formulas (simple, plain black background, even light from a cloudy day, etc, etc) and still can't find a formula I can count on to "work". So does this mean I "stretch" or that my comfort zone is blah? :-)

I just think that you have the most incredible little black cloud over you.

I have *NO* idea why you aren't in the 6s all the time.

BTW, NikonJeb, didn't I see somewhere that you placed 2nd in a contest in your area? Congrats!!! What photo did you enter? The truck?

If this is a formal wedding in a poor lighting situation, I would try to get your friend to hire a professional photographer and to let you take candids before and after wedding. If you try to do this yourself, instead of partying at the wedding, you will be working and working hard.

I am having a great week ... got two volunteer models for serious studies and made myself a light box ... I am having fun!

Nope! I do have that framed and on display currently in the Hershey Public Library, though.....with a price tag on it. For those unfamiliar, Hershey, as well as being Chocolatetown, USA, is also home to the Antique Automobile Club of America, a spectacular auto museum, and hosts if not the largest, certainly arguably the most important car show and flea market in the country.

I might have a shot at selling a matted and framed copy of the Procrastination photograph!

The one that I won a second with was one I took here in Harrisburg that I thought I had already put up, but it turns out I didn't.

I have a variation of it in Grain......so we'll have ti discuss that one later!!!!!

It wasn't a really big deal......it was just a camera club contest.

I was just using the reference in a post where we were talking about how confidence gets bolstered by being here at TS.....8>)

Some days I just don't get it.....so far this one is doing better than I thought. The one comment is just wrong.

I really feel that I have a very strong contender in this Time challenge, and I even thought this one was a better offering than my truck.

I mean, a lot of the offerings in Time are just so ordinary.....

Go figure....

I just voted a 10 to a Time entry 'cause it looks like it could be Catherine's work.......it's clever, thought inducing, dates itself somewhat, and is a terrific wildlife shot.

I just figure she'll reply and say she isn't in the Time challenge!

LOL!!!

Hey, I'm living proof that this is NOT the case!

I am qualified for the AU5 club and I ribboned with a shot that was really kind of a "ME" shot.

You'll get your ribbon when the time is right, with a shot that you'll just know is right.

Deb got hers, Darren got his......and ya know.....the TS ribbons are for really good stuff, too!

Hey!

Where is our TS ribbon Gallery?

We could even have a Brown Ribbon section and honorable mentions for Top Ten finishes!

I hope TS members aren't voting high just because they think they spot a teammate's work? I'm assuming you mean you voted high because it has things you like in it, standing well on its own as an entry, that happen to correlate with her photos. But I just want to make sure.

Christian - I shall check out said software. I've been spending WAY too much money in the past few months (had to get all 220V appliances and electronics since the house I live in here has an aversion to transformers) but software is one of those things one must simply fork over the cash for. Which reminds me, I never have purchased Neat Image. I just use the trial version on small copies for challenges. :-)

Don, that's very sweet of you to say such kind words, and Jeb, this line "I just think that you have the most incredible little black cloud over you." SO totally cracked me up!! Thanks for the encouragement, gentlemen.

Mary, I already told my friend I won't do the formal shoot of her wedding - I'm just bringing the camera and will shoot what I can get. I don't even have a flash other than what Canon provided on the camera. But the good thing is it's going to be an outdoor wedding (German weather permitting) in a vineyard.

Sadly, my misguided siblings had me bring my old Minolta XD-5 to their weddings and that's all they have to show for it, too. Silly siblings. Oh if I only knew then some of the things I know now! They (the siblings) did apparently like the pictures, though. I should scan some for me, but I don't have any of the prints or the negatives, now that I think about it.

I hope not too... Firstly because it would be against the rules and could get either person banned or suspended and secondly because if I were to get a high score, I'd want it to be because of my shot, not because I took it.

I just found out which photograph was picked for the gallery show.

A different version of this one that I entered into the "minimalism" challenge.

Ironic isn't it?

And a strong message, one should not base DPC voter responce on what is a good or bad photograph.

Greetmir, I like the outcome, nice even lighting. So let us see how you made your DIY lightbox.

Have to say that if there is an awesome wildlife shot in Time (I haven't voted yet) it isn't mine. I do have an entry in Time, and it is frankly boring as all get out :-)
03/13/2007 08:25:16 AM · #1845
Mary, that is quite an honor! One thing I've definitely noticed on DPC is that it is hard to score well with subtle photos - no matter how artistic. Mary's roots prove that point - and that DPC is definitely not the arbiter of quality.
Edit for grammar

G'morning everyone. Well I got my shot in the grain challenge. I really like it. We'll see how it goes.

Congrats Mary!

Unless cross-dress gets significantly more popular today, I think both snaffles and I should finish in the top 50 !!

Yesterday, I put a colour portrait in, took it out, put another one in in its place. I wonder if it'll stay this time or not.
03/13/2007 08:58:14 AM · #1848
I actually shot for cross dress but I didn't like them. I would have liked them if I could use advanced editing. So I decided I better do the grain.

Yeah OK ... next time I shoot in it ... I will go wide to show you how I made it ...

I'm definitely not in color portrait. Talk about something that isn't my forte - I have no lighting equipment, no models, the husband hates posing...

kashi this one should be right up your alley!
