Hey......just pulling your leg.
I found that shot of Svetlana completely by accident, read the bio, looked up the definition of tsarina, and saw that empress was called out, and VOILA!
I sound like a Russian history expert, eh?.....8>)
Seriously, I spend way too much time with my nose buried in books and I have a semi-photographic memory.
You do *NOT* want to be across the table from me in a Trivial Pursuit game.
I am a boundless source of completely worthless information!
Edit: Space-Saving and Clarity....

Well, FINALLY I'll get rid of that NASTY house that I have had on my profile page for almost three months.
I'm hoping my Time entry will climb about .05 and that will take the B&W engineers shot off as well, which I'd like to see my Time one replace as well.
Grain's there, I'd just like to see my Time-piece (pun intended) get on there too making this week a totally productive one.

I dunno Bob, I use PSP. Wish I could help you out.
If it's for your color portrait you could just leave it. Red is a color! ;)

The red-eye tool is an alternate option in the Healing Brush section of the Toolbox.

I ended up with an unexpected photo op for color portrait today - will not win any prizes, but since it's my first go, want the reaction. Who else is in? |

I probably won't have anything in this time around. I had an idea for a portrait shot but that fell through. The cell phone shot has to be of a person also and I'm not much at taking shots of people.
Since I don't have any studio equipment at all, I probably won't do multiple lighting.
I'm just praying they have some ok challenges this week. |

I have a color portrait in. And I know exactly why it will be in the 4's (at best). I have a portrait that would score higher, but it just doesn't say anything, the way this one does. I hope some of you suckers enjoy it. |

I resolved my cropping dilemma, so I'm in. :)
As for studios and lighting, mine was just stairs near a window with a piece of posterboard propped up behind the subject.

please, please please, help me! this is driving me nuts. Resizing to meet the challenge rules -
I know how to make it smaller. I know how to make it bigger. But when I start with a photo that measures, for instance, 1024 x 1313 pixels, and is 1.09 MB, how do I end up with an aceptable size. If I take it down to 640 on the longer size, it still is over 300kb. But if I reduce it far enough t be only 15okb, it's much too small in size.
What am I doing wrong, or not doing right?

FIRST resize it to 640 on the longer side.
THEN adjust the jpeg quality down until the filesize is within 150kb. This option will be available to you during the save as JPEG phase.

Ahhh, I see my problem. No Photoshop! :-(
However, I am using Irfan, and I think I can do it there.
Thank you!
almost hairless by now - been pulling it out for hours!

if you resize in steps, say at 500 pixels a time, that helps with the final quality of the image.
try to resize with 'bicubic sharper' if you're given the option.
i'm in for colour portrait. and going to bed.
night all!

Thank you, all. I'm in for Color Portrait.
Little by little, I'll figure it out, (witha little help from my friends...).
Anyway, I suspect that there are many things the voters will not like about the mechanics of my photo, but at least it's the right size!!!

OY! I have been voting in the color portrait challenge and there are some fabulous entries! Mine really sucks compared to many of the others. Portraits are my weakest area, so I will be paying lots of attention and hopefully learning.

Okay I put in for Color Portrait and my scores are in the 3's. I so know that the votes are DNMC. I looked portrait up in the dictionary and yes it says about people or figures. Do people not think outside the box or is it just me? I'm learning alot from my sucks friends but maybe I'm like the Harry Chapin song "Flowers are Red" I don't want to be like everyone else. I like my pictures and do know that I have alot to learn to be really good, but do I have to lose my individuality to get there? My husband read this and said " a little bitter are we" Maybe so, or maybe just a bad day who knows. Or just maybe a rant and tomorrow will be another day. |
