I am somewhat interested in submitting to a macro stock site such as Alamy, etc... but I do not understand the difference between submitting as RF(royalty free) and L(license). I have read a lot of the threads about this kind of subject but still don't understand it.

Example, If I would sell an L (licensed) image is that the only time I could sell that image??

If you know anything about this (sepcifically what L(license) and RF(royalty free) means)) and what the differnce is, I would really appreciate it. Thanks, J

L means that everytime someone wants to use it they must pay again.
.
RF means that they buy it once and then can use it over and over for anything they want. They can't sell it but for their own use it's theirs for whatever they want to use it.
.
My suggestion. use RL for good but normal type images that other photogs can duplicate or with photos where there are lots of similars. Use L when the pic is excellent, one of a kind, hard to duplicate and not many similars.

Best of luck. I've made over $1000 from Alamy this year so far.

And that's based on how many pictures?

Three photos in one week in Feb, two were L and one was RF. Sell prices were $875, $275 and $250. A couple more from Jan. I put very few RF in, I feel if it's good enough to sell it's good enough to control. I put the good snapshots into RF.

Phantom, I see you have more images on MyLoupe than you currently do with Alamy. How are the sales as compared with the two sites?

To be honest ... Myloupe sales suck, I had three sales last year. I stopped by Stock Solutions in Salt Lake City last week. They are in partnership with Myloupe. I found out that Myloupe is doing little or no advertising so don't expect too much. There is hope and I also hope that they kick into gear soon. I have over 2000 at MyLoupe.

Alamy is more consistant but slow. A little over 1000 at Alamy. Since last Christmas I've had five sales. Last week I was notified of a $285 refund. No explaination as to why other than the client changed their mind. That would be great if a could return everything for a refund so easy ... oh wait, this is America it really is that easy ;).

So happy? No not really but still hoping that as time goes it will increase. Still much better than 25 cents each. (let's not start a rant, it's just my opinion)
Best of luck.

Are there no time limits on these refunds?

I've got a few posts over on my blog that will explain RF and RM (L) and how they work. RM (L) can be cheaper than RF... or it can earn you five figures! Once you understand the license types it will be easier to work out how to sell your images to get the best returns:

That should do for a start,
