Now......here's the funniest comment I've ever gotten contextually.

"Nice technically but no real wow factor."

Umm......am I looking for WOW factor in a STILL challenge????

It just goes to show you that you can NEVER please all the people, etc.

Hey, I got the exact same comment on my "Still" shot. Yes, from a baghead.

It believe the commenter is one of those "weird" accounts of someone who doesn't really participate.

Here is another comment that I received. Does anyone know what this means?

this may be a photograph for a top ten but the realization is bad

THIS WEEK'S BELATED BUT EXCITING AND UNUSUAL RESULTS

BLUE===TEAM MINUS===5.7538
RED====TEAM ENTROPY=5.522466667
YELLOW=THE HOOVERS==5.347766667
BROWN==TEAM NOVICE==5.281433333

First of all, TEAM MINUS wins, led to victory by the stunning red hair of Jeff's daughter! Secondly, there was a sad bit of underplaying on the parts of the butterflies and the oofers. Thirdly, those very butterflies give us Blue Moon's Momentary Lapse of Sucking, for which she gets the usual "award:" comment on our photos!

This comment is so funny because my husband and I both got this exact comment!!! There must be a lot of nice pictures with no WOW in them.

Another thing, what does TS mean?

Hey, don't change anything on my say-so, I'm the resident fruitcake, I just don't use the word because of my own issues.

I just love the way that the people here at (T)eam (S)uck are supportive and helpful, not critical. It's a wonderful,friendly atmosphere because of it.

Thanks everyone for explaining TS. I claim temporary idiocy. I do tend to be an airhead at times. Thanks for your patience and feel free to send me a "duh" post at any time.

Well....I hope you don't mind. I borrowed your pic and gave it another twist. The possibilities are limitless. I just tried to draw more attention to the fly and away from the vise. Lemme know what you think.

Oh, I hope so!

It's always so delightful to have the TS magic play into your entries.

My scoring, technique, and enjoyment factors have gone waaaaaaaay up since joining.

At one time I only dreamed of cracking 6.0.....now I've gotten TWO over 6.6, I've had one 6.0 near miss, and even if this one doesn't stay right over 6.0, it should still displace the 5.5 I have on the profile page.

That means that everything that I will have on my profile page will have been achieved with the TS Good Luck Mojo!

So I'm kinda steamed.......

And I made a bunch of unnecessary and out-of-line comments that I have since retracted.

Edited, 'cause I should have.....my apologies.

Well, ya didn't comment, so it doesn't count! :P

I have an idea: let's all have a massive family member swap. We could send them overnight to each other, shoot for a challenge, give 'em breakfast, and send 'em back. Then no one will know which shots belongs to anyone.

Hey Jeb, you know the drill. Repeat after me:
- everyone's entitled to an opinion
- DPC participation means zilch - could be a world-class pro
- everyone's entitled to an opinion
- if tips were offered, then it was a genuine attempt to help
- you can always decline to take the advice
- everyone's entitled to an opinion
- the person took the time to try to help, so take the time to try to reflect on your shot

And, of course, everyone's entitled to an opinion. ;)

Yeah, cars rock!! I test drove a Turbo Boxter (BoxterS) a couple years ago...very very cool car...but it was just a car, nothing more. It's all good...

I am SO PISSED right now. I've read some of the comments on "Cobra Charmer" and have been doing my best to stay out of it... I haven't even looked at the thread about it. But someone else left a stupid, stupid comment, so I had to say something, and I hope I don't regret it later.

Anyway... I'll calm down in about five minutes or so. I just wish people weren't so dumb.

I was one of those who said "Someone should feed this woman!" in an original comment, because by gosh, that was my first reaction to the shot. I might add that I hear versions of that from people all the time and I don't take offense at it. I'm skinny, I eat. I accept the comment as being friendly envy (or petty jealousy, depending) but I don't take it as accusatory in any way, so *my* comment on the pic was not meant at all to be offensive either. Just a reaction. (I did qualify my comment but did not change it after the wordwar began.) At any rate, don't let it piss you off. I suspect Toyan's model probably hears it all the time, too, and hopefully doesn't take offense either.

"Toutes les généralisations sont dangereuses, y compris celle-ci. " - Alexandre Dumas

Which is possibly why no one's pointed out the irony of the fact that the ability to countenance the thought of stuffing a McDonalds hamburger down their gullets is one of the things that makes Americans seem mildly sub-human to the French. Er - generally speaking...

I guess this is one place we're going to have to disagree. It makes some sense to me that you hearing the comment from others and having that be not offensive to you means that you have the ability to put that comment and not at all intend to be offensive. However, the reason "that was my first reaction to the shot" doesn't really hold up for me. There's a huge difference between commenting "I think if you focused more on the subject this picture would be improved" and "this is total crap", and even if the latter is my first reaction I doubt I would want to leave it as a comment.

But in any case, I'm over being pissed off now :-)

p.s. I admire you not changing your comment.

Thanks so much for spending the time on this. I love the closer crop and the light being more focused on the fly with the darker edges. I see also how changing the crop and the vise color helps it to blend more with the background. Thanks for showing me what can be done. I can't wait to really start commanding PS. I have the 2.0 version and am starting to just experiment with various tools on it.

Thanks again!

SO.....

Am I wrong to be sort of indignant about a none too complimentary comment on my challenge entry, complete with the remarks on what to do to "Fix" it considering that it came from some guy with no bio, no info on where he's from, no portfolio, and no challenges entered?

My subjective knee-jerk reaction is who does this A-hole think he is leaving me a comment since he wants to hide behind this veil of anonymity.....seems kinda tasteless to me.

And of course, his avg. vote is less than 5.0.

Suffice it to say I got some feelings on this.

Okay. Take a moment and calm down. Whatever the comment is, remember -

It's not worth raising your blood pressure over.
It's someone else's opinion.
Your photos enter these challenges to be judged - don't be surprised when they are.

and, finally, and most important -

Lots of people don't leave any comments, and still trash your photo (they give it 1,2 or 3 in voting.) At least this person wrote out what he was thinking, even if "wrong".

I'll agree I could have said something else probably more politically correct, but that truly was my first reaction. :-) I did add later that his lighting and angle was such that it emphasized the model's unique physique, and in doing so, I figure he MEANT to emphasize her thinness and structure. I'm still not all that fond of the picture (the model is fine) because for some reason I find it disconcerting, which for photography, is a good thing in many ways. I also think that it would be a better picture in B&W, but that's a personal preference.
