Yowza - people gettin' panties in a bunch over an April Fool's Day joke? Not good. Relax. Enjoy the day. Short-sheet someone's bed.
I will say my Free Study probably doesn't meet the challenge. I've not studied very hard, and the shot wasn't free, as I believe I had to pay for parking that day. I just don't know how The Powers That Be knew that. |

| Hey guys, for anyone who is considering entering the speed challenge - I'd submit a trial balloon photo before putting something "real" there - I suspect the whole challenge might be a joke and you'll get some bizarre pop-up telling you "April Fools, Sucker" or the like. I might be wrong, but don't want everyone wasting their time taking impossible photos, LOL, unless you can actually enter them. |

Heh. I sent a note to the SC to ask whether it was a genuine challenge before I invested time in it. I hope it is, because I actually have a fun idea for it.
As for getting along, I just didn't want [Edited to remove commenters name] blamed for it if he didn't do it. And I'm happy to report that the post in the other thread no longer mentions him. :)

I'm surprised at how upset some people are getting about this April Fool's joke stuff on the Free Study thread. One thing that was very helpful when I got DQ'd on my highest score shot last week was that I got this site and scoring back in perspective. It's a virtual contest for no real prizes! Sure, it means a lot to win a challenge, and for me has been extremely valuable in helping me grow as a photog (mainly because of you all here at TS) but for goodness sake!
Deb - loved your post about your FS not meeting challenge, 'cause you paid for parking when you took the shot and it wasn't really a study.
Jeffrey - am glad you got in touch with SC re: [Edited to remove commenters name]. He would have probably gotten hate mail for no reason. Norway is what - 7 or 8 hours ahead in time zone? He's probably eating dinner in happy oblivion right about now.

Amusing joke, but I'm a bit sad. My internet will be turned off sometime today because I'm having my landline phone shut off. Basically, I only use the phone for my DSL connection, so I'm paying $100 a month for internet! D'oh! I'm getting a cable connection, but it's not scheduled until the 6th (it was the 3rd, but they rescheduled due to overbooking). Hopefully it won't be rescheduled again for even later. So this is where I sit now, and I won't be able to make it to the library until Tuesday or Wednesday to see my real scores. Sigh... Has anyone else's other entries taken a dive since last night? My Pop was at 5.25 last night and my Still was at 4.7.

Yes, it appears we all dropped overnight by at least 0.2

well im glad everyone else is confused with their scores too. I almost cried when i saw my free study was at a 4.2! and my spinning droped from a 5.4+ to a 5.01. My first entries in a long time, but now that i believe its all a big joke i feel better. By the way what is it with the featured photographs, they had to pick my worst one for it or what?

My scores are turned off permanently so I don't even know what they are. However, I did get the "DNMC 1" on my Free Study!
On my home page, for the featured pictures, is one of my worst shots. |

well that would be about right, my lowest scoring would be a mis-sized picture and this one i was really happy when it went away from my homepage, now i suppose i get to look at it for a week? yippy! i guess i can use it to prove to myself how much ive improved right?
and at least it only shows up for me, i would die if that picture showed up on everyone elses homepage as a featured picture!

I got the same thing, maybe it's an April Fools joke, but not very funny because it really affected my score. Now if the baghead goes back through tomorrow and fixes the rating, that might be okay.
edit to say, I'm a bit late with this comment, since it's already been established that there are a lot of April Fools shenanigans going around.

I think the featured photos is a great joke. It seems that in all the cases I've heard about the top two photos are legitimate high-scoring photos, while the bottom one is one of the low scoring shots from the homepage user.
And has anyone noticed the number of decimal places on the average votes?

Having already done that, although not to/about a TS member, and found out that I fact I was actually the aforementioned type, hopefully very temporarily, the heapin' helpin' of crow with a slice of humble isn't very appetizing.
As for banning, y'all didn't ban me for my slip off the edge into mean-spirited and thoughtless.....you gave me the benefit of the doubt without cosigning my garbage.
It's a nice thing, and in the long run, more embarrassing, yet considerate.

And Bob? Your "low scoring" shot happens to be one of my favorites of yours. Jeff, when I signed out to see which ones I'd get ("featured photographs"), I got the one of your daughter from Color Portrait. I thought that was pretty cool!

Yeah.....my Still dropped about .5 and I'm not really happy about that 'cause I've watched it just barely keeping it's head above the 6.0 level.
I think my FS is a really terrific shot, and I've got the DNMC/3.562525 as my start.......WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
Whiny, I know, but I'm not amused....(Bangs on highchair!)
