Vikas, this is nice. I like portraits done in a little darker light. It adds a little intensity and character. And the sepia tones on this one give it an old-timey look, which I always love.

Who is she? She looks like someone that would be really nice to know :)

Thanks for asking about her Sandy, made me realize I was missing out on sharing the stories of these wonderful friends! And you are right, she is indeed really nice to know :)

Getting back to Day3:
Louise is a fitness instructor and gardener by profession (her website). I met her through craigslist last weekend to shoot for her fitness webpage. She has been teaching Nordic skiing from over 30 years and now she is getting into nordic walking and outdoor fitness instructions.

A bundle of energy, a beautiful person at heart! She is the first person I actually know who has been on an expedition to Antarctica - while we met briefly she shared some stories about her trip. I look forward to seeing her again and hear all about her wonderful trips!

I had to give her the photos on CD and met her yesterday - perfect timing for day 3 :)

Wow Vikas! I'm sure glad I asked! That is so interesting. And you almost didn't share that with us! Thank you! I'm awed by someone her age (not that she's old. . . but you know what I mean) that is doing so much with fitness and health still! What an inspiration!

Day 4

I'm a little behind. I keep falling asleep when I put my daughter down for bed. We had a fun day at the park and I thought this one was fun. She kept climbing up the slide and I noticed her reflection. It was a little blue already, so I added more to make it look interesting.

Day 5 - My mother

I don't think she'd be pleased, but I was having trouble because the sun was very bright today. I caught her as she almost smiled which was nice. My mother has smiled before. It was March 1953. A Tuesday. The bars of the cage are a bit distracting but they wouldn't let us take her out.

A question for the clever people.

I tried to take some candids today with b&w conversion in mind. The sunlight was very bright, but I had to get my pictuures where I could because a) the alternative was deep shade and b) nobody moves my mother.

The results were not what I expected - because they weren't very contrasty, (I was taking JPEGs) and also they were soft - I'm guessing this may be something to do with reflected light. I was mostly using my 135 lens and it is usually pin sharp, but not today. When doing conversion the red channel was whited out, the green was okay, all the detail was in the blue channel.

So .... how do you respond to very bright conditions ? Open up the aperture and shoot very fast ? or go the other way and shoot as slow as possible. I know that shooting RAW would have given me more options, but I forgot, and anyway I'd like to know the answer for Basic Editing Challenges where multiple processing is not an option.

Day Five - Broadway Babes

This is the first time I've tried to get Bridgette and Lexi in the same shot and believe me, it wasn't easy! One would stay put and the other would run to me to grab treats - again and again and again and again..... dozens of exposures. This one made me giggle so I had to keep it!

I wish I could get the colours to look as good on here as they do when I open the file in PSE. Bear's skin looks quite washed out in this - he really is NOT this pale.
