the more the merrier is the current philosophy!!!!! .. more ppl just gives us more possibilities to learn i reckon!! .. i did say earlier that maybe too many ppl would make it hard to give our full 'attention' to commenting etc but i have revised my opinion .. i'm very easily swayed !!!.:)

okay I have been wanting to brush up on my b/w so I'm going to jump in also if there is still room. Not sure if I will be able to do all 30 days but will do what I can. Just a couple of questions do you post the pics in the thread or do you put the link to your portfolio, I've never done a side challenge so not sure how it works. |

I think I am in for 20+ days, the other two challenges I did(SP and 30 Day where you live) I hit a wall and couldn't cross that finish line. May is when my work really picks up and it could be hard to keep up, especially the commenting takes up alot of time, but I think I learn alot from as much as shooting and getting commments. Put me down for a tentative yes... |

YES .... it'd be great if ppl put their editing details with their photos ........ i usually do in these side challenges and sometimes on other stuff as well .. it can be time consuming and a bit of a pain, but i reckon if we're here to learn then just looking at an image isnt the entire story ... and when i believe that the future of digital photography involves editing as well ... then we'll be left behind if we dont move with the times ... just my opinion .. as usual !!:)

Hech we've had people start the side-challenge half way into it. No worries. |

Hey roz! I said this in the first message now but I am thinking you ought to be the one to start the actual picture thread on May 1 - considering you are in the future and all. What ya think? :D

I just saw the thread. If it is not too late I would love to try the 30 B/W challenge. Can't guarantee I will get one in everyday but it will motivate me. I tried to do a whole month of challenges last year as a personal challenge. I think I last one or two challenges and decided I needed some work. So I think I am ready to try again. |

Originally posted by MAK: Curves is a good tool for getting good tones, if you use the droplet tool on curves black and ehit one (the grey does not have much effect unless you using it on a colour image) if you select the Black droplet tool and click on the photo where you want it to be total BLACK, then do the same with the white, you will see nice tones in your shot. Then add contrast to taste. |
I had asked about making images more contrasty. Now I want to know from you all, do you take your pics in black and white or do you take it in color and then convert? And how do you convert it? I heard grayscale is not such a good idea.

Note my post of an hour before yours. People join the side-challenge half way into it all the times. No worries.
Whoever starts the new thread can you, PLEASE, tell people that they can join anytime and to just start posting there images. I probably shouldn't be posting while tired and cranky, but we often get the question over and over in the side-challenges and to answer it over and over is tiresome. It'd be nice to deal with it straight off. |

For some of us, our cameras don't do B&W. We have to convert it in post-processing. I think all Nikons are that way, but I may be wrong. There are as many different ways to convert as there are people. ;) |

I read somewhere that grayscale is not such a good idea either. I shoot in color and then convert to B/W. I get assistance from the book "The photoshop CS2 book for Digital Photographers" by Scott Kelby. It is a pretty good book. It shows you a number of techniques for converting to B/W. |
