Congratulations. As a very happy Dimage 7i owner, I believe you'll enjoy it and be surprised by it's capabilities. One thing I really enjoy about my camera is the ability to put standard 49mm filters on the lens. I've had mine since August and I'm still learning all the tricks but I love the white balance. Here's an example of what the WB can do: Can't seem to make my links work...I'll try again.

Wow! Love it! Both shots are beautiful and it's a really good example of the difference those white balance settings make! Thanks Joann

Thanks Kavey! I have had an Film SLR for years and never attempted a long exposure shot until I got my Dimage 7i. If you have any questions about how to use yours, you know where to find me!

When i baught mine i thought i would never get a point&shoot style digital cause the shutter lag is way too long to time anything and you cant get long focal lengths or macro modes with long working distances. So i baught a Nikon D-1 and had a ball. it was so much fun i baught a Nikon D-1x too, the shutter lag is so small (fast) that i have been able to time shots like A golf ball fireing 18" off the golf club face and other nature and sports like that. my point is ...Get a digital SLR and not a point&shoot style camera if you want to have fun and not have the camera be passed up by new technology in 6 months |

I think it a camera you cannot be wrong with Kavey, neither the sony 717 or the nikon 5700. I think both 3 are good products, matter of preferences. I just played with on ein my hand a little at one airport and it felt just right and true the zoom ring and the focus ring are great. You guys must be playing with it a lot already. enjoy !!! Thanks folks!
And Joann I will remember your kind offer, thank you so much!
Kendall, although we would have preferred a DSLR we didn't want to spend that much on the camera this year. We wanted either to spend a lot more now and then keep the camera for at least 5 years, or spend this much (<£700) and retain the option of buying new after 2-3 years. Since there are still so many developments happening and the obsolescence rate is pretty high we'd rather spend lower now, and in the mean time get really familiar with what features are more/ less important to us, and then in a couple of years, buy a DSLR if we still want one, and have a better idea of exactly what we want from it. Lionel Pete is working on a Technology shot. I haven't played with it yet. Instead I just booked seats to Bologna for January - Ryanair has another offer on so our return flights from London to Bologna cost £21.05 each - the price is just the taxes and handling fees. The flights themselves were only £0.01 each!! Kavey

I'm still excited at having a camera which actually shows you what you're taking - our old one didn't have a display so you just had to snap away and hope that they looked ok when you got them downloaded. It was like using film :-)
It's a lovely camera, and I shall of course cry when I end up still scoring 3.5 - ho hum. Now if I can just find some cheap Compact Flash, struggling on with two 16Mb and the one 32Mb that I can get to work with the Minolta is getting to me already...! |
