slug and worm are the closest so far, but it doesn't live on or near the ground...

it's something i could find relatively easily (look at where i live), but something Di would have difficulty finding.

woohoo! karen, you got it! it's a jellyfish larva. i found it on the beach - they were washed up all over the place. they're clear, but i it was on my hand, so i figured the pink would be very misleading. the little round bits are sand, but the dark stringy looking things in the middle are their stingers, not fully developed yet.
 a different angle, but shows the scale as well.
