an arc appears in all my photos - DPChallenge Forums

I have a new camera and am new to photography so have been reading the manual & trying out the camera. Tonight I was using manual mode & just pointed at the sky & took a test shot. I saw there was an arc in the bottom of photo slightly to the right. I did it again in another part of the sky, same arc. Took it inside & took a pic of something different, same arc. I can't see anything on the lens. Does anyone know what would cause that to happen?

No its not a shutter tear. It is sesor dirt. Get a blower and try to blow it off.

Looks more like a hair or something. Is it always in the same spot, regardless of portrait or landscape view? Does it look like that with every lens? If you only have 1 lens, check front/back part of lens, mirror and then sensor.

I had a very similar probem a few weeks back. I had never seen it before and it looked different than sensor dust. It occured on multiple lenses. I went ahead and gave my sensor and the inside of the camera a good blow with the Rocket and that cleared it up. So I guess it was a hair or the like.

I looked at both ends of the lens (I only have one lens) and inside the camera body but didn't see anything. Anyway, I will try to clean the sensor -- thanks for the link (never done it before).

I've had the camera for about two months now (and the first month I had a problem with the lens so didn't get to use it so much). How often do you normally have to clean the sensor?

I would not do a full cleaning on the sensor yet. Try a blower first and give the inside a good blow out.

The large size Rocket works well.

that depends on how often you use the camera and more so how often you change lenses.
If your camera is only a couple of months old it shouldnt need more than a good blowing to get any dust or hairs off the sensor. Just make sure you have the lens mount pointed down so all the dust falls out of the camera.

Look for mirror lock up in the menu.
