This has been debated a lot, and I think one of the final conclusions was that yes, there are a lot of filters that'll ruin photographs -- but that's exactly why you shouldn't use them. Nobody's going to win with a shot filtered beyond recognition, because that's not what this site is about.

just a small addition to the filters vs. no filters debate

Some might be familiar with the technique of zooming in or out on a subject like the image below...

Someone asked in another thread whether the current challenge (motion) was to be submitted under the new or old rules. Maybe it should be made explicit on the Home page before we have too many more submissions.

I am asuming old, as submissions could have been made today.

That's the safe and logical assumption, but I've been trained to not assume -- the med school joke is that it makes "an ass/u/me"

To quote from the last lines of the announcement...

Site Down-time
"We expect the upgrade of the site on 12/3/2002 to take about 3 hours. We'll probably start the upgrade around 5pm EST."

offline at 5pm EST = 10pm GMT
back online at 8pm EST = 1am GMT

I know I'm gonna be awake at 1am tonight ;o)
