Gosh...a whole thread on the definition of Sacred...I wish I read this discussion before I entered...LOL.
Not to worry...my banana is still dancing...so I'm inviting you all to my Banana Dance Party...
(My apologies...I realize there is absolutely nothing "sacred" to appreciate about this absolutely silly video...YIKES!!!).

I think there were more than that, but there were MANY that could not even loosely be considered "sacred". I also said before that the non-religious folks (I guess) are voting down those images depcicting sacred faith.
And there are some just plain bad images too. :) |

Frankly, this type of response doesn't surprise me. I'm rather new around here, but I usually vote images at a 7 or higher if they meet the challenge AND have some emotional weight behind them.
Honestly, from a religious standpoint, even some of the outwardly religious works didn't have that emotional draw to them that I was expecting -- mine included. I fully expected to score below a 5 (4.6 as we speak) but the image has significance to me that it wouldn't for others -- hence the "sacred" aspect of it all.
Personally, I find this challenge interesting because of the wide variety of images. In the end, the one with the broadest emotional impact will probably win.

Started out at 5.6 - dropped to a low 5.5 and now up to a 5.7 - I'm happy camper - then again, I'm easy to please. All the comments are positive and constructive, that's nice too. |

I want to express my opinion about all the things that have been said...
I am not a religious person, but i have my beliefs, and there are some things that are sacred to me, and I am not talking about religion, church...
I think that people don't need to do exactly what the subject of the challenge suggests...that's not creativity and definitely is not making a good photo
People have different points of view about this subject that's because we all have our own beliefs.
DIVERSITY.That's why this challenge is so interesting to me...

Some challenges suggest photographing objects or places more than others - this is one of those. And often, photographing objects or places is something that one does as a tourist for instance. Hence challenges like this are a good chance to work on skills doing just that - try to make objects or places more appealing than a simple snapshot - make your "tourist" pics that much better than the next guy's. I kinda liked seeing some of the stuff presented - about halfway through, will get to the other half before the end of the challenge.
And I'm VERY delighted with my entry at the moment, though if I were to comment on it I'd say it's a wee bit (deleted until after the challenge.)

No apology necessary Eva you point was very well stated.
I think that everyone has the right to submit photos based on their preferences and beliefs and they have the right to vote using those same preferences and beliefs.
Some topics are just more polarizing then others.

| Nothing but going down....lol..how does a photo elicit alot of 9's and 8's.....and then get a whole lot of 4's and 2's ?......the credibility of the voter is dropping....it's amazing..I'd just as soon have a lousy photo...at least I know myself that it was bad to begin with. |

| I've been around awhile here..lol...meeting the challenge is meeting the challenge...actually easy....and I understand that people will be people, I am just pointing out the BIG difference in the voting scale..NBD...and I just find it amazing...there will always be 2's...and 9's... but not one after the other....2, 9, 3, 9, 10, 2....lol |

WOW! i'm incredibly disappointed. I thought for sure this was going to get a mid 6. This is a shocker. I can't believe i'm not getting a 6. This is really souring my love for DPC at the moment. |
