I have a FujiFilm FinePix 3800 and Im having trouble with slow shutter speed. I just took a shot in bright sunlight coming through the window. The picture was exposed properly, but the camera selected f2.8 with a 1/8 shutter speed. It was darn bright and well lit. I then tried to use apature priority, and set it to 2.8 (largest I could select), and took the photo again. The auto exposure system then used 1/7 shutter speed. I dont understand why Ive seen Fuji FinePix 3800 photos here at dpchallenge that had a f2.8 and shutter of 1/750 in brightly lit outdoor setting? I could go take a picture of a bright white building in bright sunlight with f2.8 apature, and I still wouldnt come close to that kind of fast shutter speed? How do they do it in the photos Ive seen here? Thanks everyone. |

Just guessing here:
If you are taking light through a window I'm guessing that some of the area you are framing is quite dark.
Do you have an option for spot metering?

Yeah, I guess maybe some stuff further in the background was darker, I tried to fill the frame with the lit area thou. I dont know for sure which metering method my camera uses, but whatever it is, I dont have an option to use any other methond (I dont think). |

Remember that ISO on that thing is only 100 and 2.8 F is quite a small hole !That camera sucks indoor you must use tripod and timer.
This Photo is taken just next to an open patio door inside the room at noontime!
As you see I have shutter at 1/4 at F 4.7,very slow, but I did used tripod and timer.

Thanks for the input. Most of the time I get pretty darn good point and shoot photos from this camera, way better than the HP 2mp camera I had before. But your right, it is slow, and so I do fight with blur, and have problems with motion shots. I have gotten some beautifull shots at night over Las Vegas using slow synchro flash and hand holding the camera. Thanks for input. Still, kebmod54 has a Sea Biscuit shot in normal bright outdoor setting with 1/750 shutter speed, I cant duplicate that speed no matter what light conditions Im in. Thats what I was trying to figure out. Thanks all. |
