I have been shooting low light picture with my new canon 10D and finding that after shooting my picture are not as sharp as I would like them to be.....any suggestions?
The pictures were taken at 400ASA F3.0 and 1/8th of a second with the use of a tripod. I'm shooting with two 100 watt halogin lights and one overhead 50 watt spot for the hair.

What lens?
What aperture?
Do you have a sample that you can post? |

how low is the light? autofocus doesn't work properly in the darK.
(Its not the camera) |

Try a higher ISO. 400 or higher should do the trick in low light situations.

The AF in 10D er the best i've had so far, a lot faster then my old Olympus E-10, so I can't complaint.
But in low light conditions I recommend the manual focus |

Robert, we need sample images with full EXIF data. Need to know what lens and if you use a tripod. It's the only way we can help.
P.S. the out of cam shots are a bit soft, but respond very well with Unsharp Mask.

The lens is a Canon 28-105 ultrasonic

An aperature of 3.5 is going to give you a pretty narrow depth of field. Have you done any post processing other than resize? I'd like to see the image straight from the camera.
Focus appears to be pretty decent on her eyes, but her hands and feet appear to be quite soft, which would be expected with a narrow depth of field. I would be able to give a better evaluation from the original image, unprocessed...
I have shot portraits with 500 watt halogens and had them come out darker than this. has this one been adjusted in an editing program?

I saved the image local and zoomed in so I could try to find a focal plane, but the entire image looked soft. While I had it in photoshop, I ran the Canon 10D CSPro plug-in, from www.fredmiranda.com, set at medium and it clean up very nicely. I hope you don't mind that I uploaded for comparison.
