Bit the bullet and bought a 300D, it was delivered this morning. Not had much chance to play with it yet as at work all day and had visitors round this evening. So i have only just fired it up, shot off a few pics and had a general look round it. Ok now i have to learn how to work this baby and get the best out of her, she is a different beast as i am so familiar with my Fuji cameras. Gave my Fuji 602Z to my son for his 21st Birthday present - he is well happy. Now i need to take a days holiday off work and give this baby a good try out. My first impressions -
Its heavier than i thought - but thats a plus and helps image stability.
Took a few hand held shots indoors and they look good - the flash did make me jump first time it popped up!
I hope to post a few shots during the coming week.

Mike

Congrats on the new camera. I'm close to taking the plunge myself.

I've got a question for those of you who've moved up to the 300D from other digicams: Do you miss being able to compose your shot on the LCD? When I got my A40, I ruled out a couple of cameras specifically because they had no viewfinder - I couldn't imagine I would ever use the LCD to compose shots. But over time, the combination of a viewfinder that's not quite centered correctly, and the ability to compose a shot with the camera in a spot where there's no way you could get your head in and look through the viewfinder, now I'm not sure I can imagine not being able to compose in the LCD. Any thoughts from those who've made the change?

I only used the LCD on my 602z very occasionally when using it in macro mode where i could keep one eye on the subject and one on the LCD. The macro mode on the 300D (with the 18-55 lens) does not come close to the 602Z something i will miss but then its swings and roundabouts...

I too, joined this club this morning I returned the Minolta A1 I bought on Friday, deciding to get something much different than the minolta 7i that I already own. I spent the day taking shots, WOW what a camera so far, I also bought the 75-300 lens which is what I used all day, we will see how they look soon, I shot a whole giga card. I am noticing as I import tho a black border on top and bottom, wondering what that is about.

Well, I'm only a hopeful someday owner of a DSLR (how do you folks afford it... makes me gree with envy *grin*) But if your camera is anything like mine, the lines account for the aspect ratio... in this way, you can take shots that are the correct size for photo developing (full screen digi cams don't tkae shots at the right ratio).

I returned it primarily because I own the 7i alreasy and they are very similar cameras. I wanted something that seemed different with a bit more versatility in terms of lenses for the same price I feel like I can do a lot more interchanging and if someday I get the 10-d I will have all the lenses already.

If anyone is interested my four new portfolio shots are some of my first rebel results.

hi all

I love my new 300D but there are a few things I miss that are on my Fuji602 so
I have decided to keep the fuji too!
It has the grid guidelines feature which is great for composing shots and keeping the horizon straight. It also has a better macro feature (I dont yet have a macro lens for my Canon) and its a good 'all in one' camera to have with me all the time.
Having said all that, I love the features of the canon, I like the way that I can use my old canon lens' and the clear image in the viewfinder.
I learned on a Canon film rebel so this D version is just so easy to use. I also like being able to use a flash on the hotshoe.

I purchased the book 'A short course in Canon Eos Digital REbel photography but its not really worth the money' $NZ75!

I used the LCD on my G2 for every single shot I ever took with it. I never ever used the VF once. After 1 minute with the 300D I didn't even think twice about using the LCD. It feels very natural very quickly to use the VF.

Welcome Mike. You're going to love it here on team Canon.

Lynn. If you're on the team, why does your profile still say Minolta 7i?

About the 602Z, I still have mine, but I cannot imagine wanting to use it instead of the Rebel. It may have a few features that the Canon does not, but in the end, it all boils down to image quality, and to be honest, the Fuji doesn't even come close.

Congrats on the purchase!! I've had my 10D for some weeks now and am still an extreme newbie with it... a beast these things are indeed.

I've been very happy with the 300D.
My E-20 was so heavy and slow. Ugh.
So far I have zero complaints.

Been out and about today with my new Camera, also bought a Canon 75-300 zoom and used that on most of the shots. All the shots are hand held. In hindsight I should have taken my tripod. Feel free to have a look, on my website below.

Wow, ellamay - the images are so crisp, the colors are excellent - any post processing to bring out that much color?

I'm hoping to have a 300d by end of this year.

Congrats on your purchase! :-)
