Images thread
This has probably been done before, but I thought it might be fun. You can pick whatever subject you like for the month, or change it daily. Goal could be to create the best photos with as little editing as possible, or to edit the crap out of them for a completely different result. I think the results from both aspects could teach us something, and I for one would really like to see how some of theses awesome images around here started life.
I'm thinking it could be a daily challenge, but no worries if you can't post every day.
*
Edited to add rules, rules, rules!
1. Post as often as you can, but no specific requirements.
2. Edit as much or as little as you like, but stick within one ruleset for each photo. (Basic, advanaced, expert, etc.)
3. Post the before photo along with the after. If you want to explain your processing steps,(or lack of) feel free. If you want to keep it a secret and leave us wondering...that's cool.
Any rules I forgot?
The list so far, in no particular order. Yell at me if I missed somebody.

Sounds like an interesting side challenge. It's always nice to see what someone started with and the results. |

I suck at keeping up with monthly side thingees but I do love posting and watching threads like these. I would participate on a very haphazard level with no firm commitments. Most of my submissions will probably be based off of my challenge entries.
Here are a couple of side by sides I have in my portfolio right now.

For a while, some people were running a Post-Processing side competition, where everone started with the same original "problem" photo, and submitted their version of the PP'd image for voting. Here is one of the old threads.
Whenever my entry has some "interesting" processing, I try to post a "resized original" in my Workshop folder, and put a link to it right in the Additional Info area with the other editing info, so people can pretty easily compare the before/after versions as soon as the voting is concluded. |

Gen, that is really interesting, it would make you see the same things a hundred different ways. Thats cool |

What "level" of editing do you want to allow -- "what is possible" is pretty broad ...
Original: Final:
I'm pretty sure there's at least one previous thread where people posted their "best" editing job -- unfortunately, my best is still this one I did more than 10 years ago ... :-(
I've also posted some step-by-step examples, such as this follow-up to my Dirty Windshield entry. Under the Learn menu, the "How'd They Do That?" area is full of good Post-Processing examples of all kinds. |

Hmmm. Could be any level of editing I suppose. I think it would be appropriate for each person to let us know which rule set was used for each picture. So if you use basic editing and blow our minds, everyone will be doubly impressed.
Lets see of this gets any further interest throughout today and tomorrow. |

It was quite an ordeal to track down a set of cranberry-colored frames ... six months or so after they'd been discontinued. :-( |

Perfect! I would even say if there are some new editing skills/tricks you've picked up and want to redo something you shot in the past...why not? I've been wanting to go back over some of my old favorites anyway. |

this sounds like fun. But I do tend to edit the daylights out of mine
if there are no restrictions - and I frequently don't remember what I did!

No Problem! Restricitions are for boring people. Or people who just like restricitions. Edit to your hearts content! |

Okay, great. Put my name on the list - if you're keeping a list, that is.

If you are using Photoshop you can adjust your preferences to record some or all of your editing steps as a text file -- search PS Help (or the DPC forums) for "Log" ...
You can also take notes with a pencil and the back of the envelope your utility bill comes in ... ;-) |
