Like others before me, I would like to know if any of my images might make a few bucks at the stock sites. I'd be thrilled to one day pull in an average of $50 a month. Anyone who would care to offer an opinion is welcome - I have thick skin. Newer photos are toward the bottom of each category and I have model releases for everything in the portraits section.
Also... How often do you actually get to see your photo in use? I'm sure they are under no obligation to notify you. |

well it looks like you definitely can take shots well enough for stock so you just need to give it a try.
Like melking said people sells the best but other things like objects, interiors, plants, and landscapes can also be decent shots.
To track images there is a new website called tinagent that works very well. When people use the images they often credit the photographer so many times you can just do a google search for your name and look in the images and quite a few will pop up.

You won't regret it

Bernard, thanks for starting this thread. I was horribly bored at work and it lit a fire under me. I just submitted my first 3 photos to iStock for review.
Does it really take 2 weeks to review? Which one do you recommend I go to next? I know nothing about this. |

Hi, I maintain a website called SprintingTurtles where I have earnings statistics for the main stock sites. I also have a few how to articles that may interest someone wanting to get into microstock. I highly recommend anyone give it a try. The key is to give it a fair try. Don't upload 15 photos, wait a couple weeks, and decide that it isn't going to work. I thought this for about my first month or two and am now so glad that I stuck with it. I hoped to make 20 or 30 dollars per month and am now happy to find out that a lot more can be made.
Good Luck and Happy Downloads.

I suggest you try dreamstime and fotolia. Shutterstock is also a great earner but slightly harder to get into.
The polls on microstock group are good if you want to check out the earnings potential of the various sites.
There are also tons of sites with info and resources on getting started with microstock.. just do a search and you should find quite a few.
Here is a few to get you started

Bernard,
You sure should try stock sites. Now I earn an average 100 $ a month and I don't even have my own camera... Sometimes I rent it, sometimes I borrow it. I have around 130 photos at 6 stock agencies, so it is just a game for me, though profitable. You just have to be patient at the begining - the more you upload the more downloads you can get. The bad thing is that when you get involved in stock photography, you become stock oriented yourself and sometimes it is just gets difficult to go outside and... simply shoot what you want. Good luck anyway!
There is the list of the stock sites that works best for me in terms of money. Just want to warn I have added referal link there.

For me people works better. I mean people representing some activity - working, playing, eating. |

For those of you who post "people pictures" to multiple stock sites, how do you handle your model releases? Have you found each site is pretty accepting of generic release forms, or do you have each model sign multiple forms, etc.?
