Finally got my new battery charger in the mail after leaving mine at a hotel. I'll be charged up and ready.

Put me in as a possibly, I won't know until it gets closer. I have a friend that lives in DC that would probably join us.

Hi everyone. Sorry I disappeared for a few weeks - was on my 15th anniversary vacation. :)

Now that Judy's mini-GTG is shaping up, it's time to start thinking about September again. :)

Just curious if any more has been set up for this event. I'm willing to help with one of the groups if it helps.

I am going to try to make it this year. I know, I've bailed on the last two. Life with a daughter is a bit more complicated. *lol*

Just thought I'd give this a bump. Not sure if I'll be able to make it but thought we should possibly start discussing dates?

So if I drive in of the 13th where should I drive to or where and what time are we going to meet.

Oops, sorry. I've kind of been absent at the wheel here.

Ok, folks, let's start talking in more earnest about what we wanna do. As a local, I'm pretty much willing to go anywhere or do anything.

So let's hear it!

Jeff, Is there anything going on that weekend (special events)? I am totally open for any location. Could you help those interested in going by listing a few options that we can decide on?
08/13/2008 11:46:58 PM · #38
Scott, I don't know whether there's anything special that weekend. I included several options in the first post.

As you know, I've shot the memorials multiple times, so they hold no particular draw for me, but they're usually a favorite for visitors. The zoo is always cool, but several of you went there a few weeks ago.

Rock Creek Park and Great Falls, along with the National Arboretum, provide nature shot opportunities.

Does anyone have an opinion about where we should/could go to shoot? It looks pretty open at this point in time. I am making plans to be there Fri. night and leave Sun. sometime. It looks like we should be making a game plan. All options are acceptable, do we have any preference at this time?

Well Scott, given the thundering noise in here, what do *you* want to do?

For me, we could go out to Great Falls and do a hike, and I'd be happy. :)

Vince and I are in... Just let us know the details,,

I haven't been to the National Arboreteum in years; that might be fun. Great Falls would be cool, too, though I've been there more recently.

There are other places I like better for wildlife but that's always dicey, since the wildlife may decide not to come out and play on the day you decide to visit. The plantings at the arboreteum and the river at Great Falls are much more of a sure thing, photographically ;-)

ETA: there is also an 18th century craft fair at Mt. Vernon that weekend. You can't take pictures inside the mansion, but there are tons of opportunities on the grounds (gardens, farm animals, outbuildings and equipment, and paths along the Potomac). Gunston Hall has similar opportunities and is on the Mason Neck peninsula, so Bald Eagle sightings are always a possibility while hiking there.

If this is still being set for the 13th, I won't be able to make it.

I have a show......hopefully, a lucrative one, but it'll be terrific exposure anyhow.

Center city, Harrisburg, in the sidewalk and upscale restaurant area.

Have fun!

As I mentioned before I'm open to any suggestions since DC is a totally new area for me to shoot. Gardens, wildlife, architecture, people, are all interesting and I would be happy to go to any of the aforementioned locations. Sorry guys, I'm not able to be the catalyst for this GTG. I'm depending on others who know the area better than I do.

I hope you do well Jeb. You have some very attractive art.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to join on the 13th or not, my mom & I are planning our annual girls wkend & it's looking like it might be that wkend.... I'll definitely keep an eye on this thread though & see how plans work out.

Looking forward to this. China Town sounds good, never been there. Eastern Market might be good shooting. They have a small craft show, flee-market and farmers market every weekend. Great Falls is a favorite. Haven't been to the arboretum for years. Open to most things. I'll need to carpool for some of these places, but I'm on the metro.

*drags out of black pit of work* Dear god, how long has it been since I actually posted...*looks and cringes*

Ha! Take that evil work/life imbalance. I'm in. :) Now I've never done Great Falls, so that would work. Do we have confirmation on total numbers?
