I'm out. I can't make it on a Saturday. I'll keep watching though, and see if anything comes up on a weekday.

Regarding the 6th I saw (hope I didn't overlook anyone):

Where and when would be a good time to meet? I have to bring a colleague to the airport in the morning, but from 1pm on I'm pretty flexible.

I was hoping to make the 6th, but I'm booked.
Just in case you're interested, there is a Salt Lake Photo Club meeting this Saturday - Here's the email reminder:
This is a Photo Club Meeting Reminder: Saturday, 6th: The Main Library 3 pm-5pm 9/6/2008 *Conf. Room -1
We will be meeting at the Main Library at 3pm to go over a little about Adobe Lightroom.
And then around 4pm we will be taking trax (we will be in the free zone) over to main street to do some more street photography so bring your cameras!!
While I may be able to get to the meeting, I doubt it.

Hello everyone,
So I guess I'm the only U-tard that's willing to step up and help out a fellow DPC'ers get some shots around this town hu? :D
JUST KIDDING GUYS! :P
In all seriousness, Saturday afternoon hu?
Okay let's see, aneyra mentioned:
1. Salt Flats
2. SL Marina
3. One of the canyons...which one???
Salt Flats would be great, late afternoon, sunset would be sweet. Do you guys want to just shoot the flats themselves or do you think we can line up a model or two to come out and have some subject matter to place in frame? I've got a couple of in-laws / sisters that might be willing to model for us on short notice.
The Marina, I've been out there a ton of times but it's always locked up tight, perhaps I don't know the right "in" down there but for sure that would be fun, again that would be a great late afternoon / sunset location.
Canyons, we do have access to some great canyons in the SL valley, Big & Little cottonwood canyons are for sure nice. I've shot some in American Fork canyon and been very pleased with the results. We'd have to move quick in the canyons as light fades quickly. But I guess that's why we all have alternate light sources hu?
Other possible locations are:
Salt Lake Library (downtown)
Salt Lake downtown
Salt Lake Capitol Building (just remodeled)
ETA: DUH! The 2008 Greek Festival is going on as well.
Either way I'm good. We could meet downtown either by the Library or the City and County building would be good, that way we have options to go wherever.
Nald

Just to add to the confusion, here's another idea: Spanish Fork Kite Festival today and tomorrow.
I can't make it either day, so I'm just tossing this out as a "timely event".

That sounds great. From those mentioned I basically only know Downtown Salt Lake City and would be most interested in 1 (I have almost no experience with model shootings but would love to learn), 2, and 4 (Capitol Building and Library), but would as well go to the other locations mentioned.
How about meeting at the Main Library (just to make sure that this is not ambiguous: 210 East 400 South, Salt Lake City) at 3 pm Sept. 6 (=tomorrow)? I assume there is just one main entrance; I'll hang around there and will have a shirt with "Novell" on it.
I'd suggest to decide where to go depending on the interests of those present.
Looking forward to seeing you.

Well, looks like only Nald and bjoern can make it on the 6th (a reception just popped into my schedule so I might not make it), let's schedule another one for more people and better planning. I like Nald's idea of having a couple of models for the Salt Flats.
Let's throw some dates in and people can decide what dates they can do, we'll then pick one and go with that one.
Sept 20 (Saturday)
Sept 21 (Sunday)
October 4 (Saturday)
I can make any of those dates.

I must be overworking myself... I can't make any of those dates either. :( So far the 13th and 27th are free, those are my only two Saturdays for the next two months.

Pick a date and I'll make sure I'm there.
For sure a little more time to arrange some talent for the Salt Flats would be good. I think that would produce some great images as well.
And we can head over to the old Wendover airfield and shoot in and around the base. The old air control tower is awesome.

Well ... well ... it's been a long time but for some reason decided to check the site and see what's up. And to my surprise a GTG in SLC area. Well I'm back in Utah for good. Sold out in Texas and now building our new home in the middle of 7 acres in a small farming town of Fountain Green, about 95 miles south of SLC. Got the footings and basement foundation poured and should start on the framing in a week or so. I'll keep a lookout and see if I can make it. Out camping this weekend. Glad to see some of the oldies still around. Nald, did ya move back? See ya'll later,

Whow, Don! great to hear from you! It was John Todd who moved out. Steve stuck around.
I'm up for a Salt Flats shoot on the 27th. I'll be back from Hawaii (I know), and ready for a shoot. I'd like to arrange for some "talent" and shoot some stock shots at the same time.
Have fun tomorrow. Wish I could join you.

See how long it's been, can't remember who moved and who stayed. But yup I do remember now. Enjoy Hawaii, we spent two weeks in Maui and Oahu in Feb, beautiful weather and great photo ops. Stock shooting is always fun, I've been doing a lot of video stock the last year and it's definitely been worth while. Heck even Alamy has made me $1500 in the last two months. Great way to pay for cameras and travel. Enjoy and again hello to all the Utah folks |

DON! Nice to hear from you and glad to see you're back in the Great State! Yeah John had enough of the snow and cold so he's down in Florida where Jimmy Buffet is on 24/7 and Cuban food / drink are in abundance.
Many have tried to get me to leave this state, none have succeeded. :D
Sounds like the 27th is our day, and the Salt Flats will be the location. Now for talent.....

Alright! I've reserved the 27th. :)
Does anyone already have volunteer models or do we need to scout some up?

I'd be willing to "sponser/chaperon" you to save you from possible harm if it would help your mom. I'm a school official and have to have a "sterling" character. I can be googled for your mom to see. Let me know if that would help.

Hello,
I just noticed this thread and I'm very interested. I'd love to go see and shoot the flats as I've never been out there before. I'll check with my hubby tonight to see if he'll be around to watch our son. If so, count me in.
