I'm not bothering. I wanted to and I have an hour, but I use long exposure for effects vs. landscapes. The top 10 for the last 3 Long Exposures were landscapes.

I also don't feel like screwing with my camera settings to create a JPG (changing contrast, sharpness, etc in camera).

So I'm out of this one. Glad is was a bonus and not a regular one

I would actually love it to be a regular one. It makes you step out of your comfort zone and try something new...and who knows...with a little practice your non-landscape entry just may blow out the landscape entries...you won't know unless you try.

Nah, I don't mind the minimal. I just don't feel like messing up my camera settings. :)

I'm not being mean or picky or anything... it's just that the whole point of this challenge is to take a picture that does NOT need to be cropped and does NOT need to be adjusted with photoshop... If you think that every picture needs to be photshopped, talk to someone who still shoots film... I only switched to digital in December... with film, you get whatever the film records...

This challenge is a TRUE test of whether you know HOW to use your Camera... not how well you know how to use photoshop... IF you know how to use your camera properly, you should be able to take a Great picture without photoshop...

Sorry If i offended anyone with that rant... =)

please don't hate me... but that is the point of minimal editing...

Your rant makes no sense. Photographers using film, have been cropping, making exposure adjustments, dodging & burning, etc... in the dark room for ages.

Well it's actually a test of the processor in the camera to produce a good quality JPG. Some are going to be better than others. I expect Nikon and Canon to do better than some other cameras. Basic editing allows an equalization because our own skills vs. the camera's programmed settings can be applied.

yea yea yea... i am aware of a dark room... i was referring to the majority of people who used film SLR cameras... not that many people do dark room work... most people who had SLR film cameras didn't have their own dark room... You don't need a Dark room to take an amazing picture...

No dark room, no picture. Simple as that.

hahaha... correction "you don't need to do fancy adjustments in the dark room to get an amazing picture"

Burn on me for that one

i'm beginning to think that I should have just kept that rant to myself... it's jsut a little beef that I used to have with some other friends of mine... I used to shoot Film SLR and just dropped the film off at Blacks for processing, and they used DLSR's and did all kinds of photoshopping... their pics were always great, but so were mine and there weren't any corrections done to mine... i always liked the fact that mine weren't adjusted... they were just printed the way they were... that's why I was excited when I saw the minimal editing... i LOVE pics that have not been edited in any way... that's what all my baby pics are... my dad had a Pentax K1000 SLR he used to take baby pics of my brother and I they are all amazing and they are right out of the camera, processed at Blacks... minimal editing all the way... I love it!!!

Correction, Blacks did all your corrections for you. Don't kid yourself by thinking a lab doesn't do anything. Unless of course, you told them not to.

hahaha... I ALWAYS had the person in the lab make NO corrections there... you can check on the back of the pic if any corrections were made... i made them re-do many rolls of film because they corrected them...

It's 5am here in Scotland, waiting up to check out my first votes!

Fine!

I entered. We'll see what happens. I may even get the brown!

some nice images in here. Not bad for minimal.

IF you can take the very same shot with a short exposure, I'm afraid I voted you down. There were at least a handful that fell victim to this.

I bet you did mine, even though it was a stop motion... oh well, I got goaded into entering and couldn't stand NOT doing it.

If the stop motion led to an effect I could tell required a long exposure, you were ok. :) I only gave one 1 and three 2s. I gave 18 votes of 7 and above.

Doubt mine warranted that. It took some effort, but in the end, it looks like a prop... :)

Gee ta! I think you were one of my low voters....but if you look carefully, you can see that you cannot take some of those entries with a short exposure....!

I think if you couldn't be bothered to clean your sensor, it should have been indicator #1 that you should not have bothered entering.

Think you're referring to my entry...

That's a little harsh, I think. Sometimes sensor dust isn't so evident until it's too late.

Ah, Dr. Achoo, you couldn't tell, could you, that with my camera a shorter exposure was not possible unless I cranked up the ISO and/or opened up the aperture, either or both of which would have resulted in a very inferior image? I think I would have preferred you to say rather that an image does not show what you had in mind by "long exposure." Subjectivity is not a bad thing.

If it's evident to the viewer in 2 seconds, it's evident to the photographer in 2 seconds. Anyway, there was a lot more than one entry with the bunnies. Don't take it personally.

I didn't realise that this was one of the criteria for a long exposure shot. I admire your work enormously and as a learner I actually looked at some of your works for inspiration, for this challenge....cough!...cough!!!....

It\'s probably a bit late to suggest that you go back and comment on the specific ones that didn't meet your criteria, 'cause then we'd know who got the one's and two's, and I'm probably one of them! :D

Oh well! .... at this stage the closest I\'ve come to emulating your photography in any way shape or form, ....is brushing the 5D within 6 inches of water 2 days ago! ....on an afternoon trek with three other DPC'ers, and 'Bummer' was already up on the challenge list.

I landed on my knees right beside the stream......(I suppose that\'s what you get for watching where the frolicking dragonflies are landing, instead of where you are going)...

I did the big save!!! ....and nobody got the shot....

There is a sweet moment in every day...that was mine! LOLOLOLOL!!!

Thanks for voting! .......and contributing enormously to this site. ...now ....if your comments flowed as freely as your ability to submerge 5D's, we would all have enormous overheads with our insurance...even in OZ! ...Thank goodness some of us can hold them above the waterline!! ...even if it is only for a moment a day! :D)))))

Cheers
Barb

PS: ....and I am just delighted that you would be willing to provide a personal critique of my Long Exposure Image at the end of voting!!...(...can't stop laughing!!) :D)))))))))) ... it may be just the wine â€Â¦or the fact that BAMartin has become a Grandmother! :D Wahhhoooo!
