I'm trying to pull an embedded image from an e-mail. The image expands as I resize the e-mail window, and doesn't lose quality, plus the e-mail is HUGE, so I know it's a high-res image. But I can't save it as anything, and if I try to copy and paste it somewhere (or drag and drop it), it shows up as an extension-less file called "scrap." PSP X2 won't read it. I'm using Outlook 2007 and Windows XP.
Any ideas? |

send it to me in an email. I'll save it to my hard drive then email it back to you.

I think this may be a remote image that is loading from elsewhere. You could try doing a screen capture. (alt+prtscrn)

I send embedded pictures in my email all the time so I just tried it on one I sent the other day. I can copy but it won't let me paste the image anywhere! You can't right click and save them as a file either. ETA .. I can drag and drop the image back to my desktop and it shows up as a JPG file.

This is silly. Right-clicking on the image has only one enabled option: Copy. Well I can only paste it as a SCRAP file (thanks DD for the link), which is pretty useless. It looks like it originated from a Hotmail account then was forwarded to me. Nothing's easy. |

Do you have another email account you could forward it to? What about trying to saving it from an online interface? |

save as html doesn't seem to save the images either. how about view source, find the image names, search your cache? |

Does your e-mail provider have a secondary way of viewing mail through a web browser? If so, you might find that their online version of the mail provides an easier way to save attachments. |

I have the same problem with outlook. It actually takes a photo attachment and embeds it into the email on it's own. And sometimes it just deletes them. Most of my email to outlook is filtered through gmail, so I just go to my gmail page and open it there. That's the only solution I've ever been able to figure out. |

Ok Im running outlook 2007 here and just tried this and it works, you will prob have to have acrobat installed. Open the email, convert the email to a *.pdf, open the *.pdf and right click the image and "save as" once the image is saved you should be good to go.
BTW save as on mine defaulted to *.bmp but that can easily be changed to *.jpg or *.tif... in the file properties.

Select>Delete=it's gone; what's the problem? If you want a copy of it, ask the sender to resend giving instructions. |

I'm just now getting back to this. Your ideas got me thinking, Art.
Yes, the brute force approach would have been to do an ALT+Print Screen, and then paste the image in my photo editor and do some work to it. But since the image was sizing with the window, I would have lost some resolution.
Anyway, saving the e-mail as HTML did in fact work. It politely dumped the image files (JPG's) into a folder alongside the HTML file that I saved.
Thanks Art, and everyone else for the ideas.
PS: I did try forwarding the e-mail to a web account that I have, but that ended up filling up the mailbox and it bounced. Again -- nothing's easy! |
