Be glad of any feedback on my new website design. It is for users of 1024x768 and above only at the moment although I am thinking about doing a lower res version also.

Now it is not all up and running, you can click on portfolio and view black and white images of people and urban, but that's it at the moment.

I am particularly interested in feedback on:

1. Design
2, Navigation
3. Quality of photos
4. If you must the two poems that are on there also

I am planning a lot more but this has taken me ages so slowly slowly and before I go any further I want opinions

Thanks in advance

the address is //www.magicmedia.co.uk

Or for the lazy: //www.magicmedia.co.uk

First thing I would say is - don't resize my browser window! Nice design though. :-)

I like your design concept a lot. Clean and professional looking.

My only 'criticism' - I don't like having to hit the back button a number of times to get back to the home page. I'd recommend some sort of navigation on every page that I can click once to hop around. Hope that made sense..

Very nice start!!

There is navigation at the bottom right of the page, do you mean a menu system would be better?

it seems to be opening a second window for me, with the address of : //www.magicmedia.co.uk/undefined (i'm using mozilla 1.5 btw)

other than that, i hate resized windows, leave that control to me :)

and then i also dont quite like another 3rd window opening for the photo itself.. i like it when one site means one window..

other than that, i like the design itself..

seems like it takes too long to load.
i like the way its laid out - but too large a screen res in my opinion
as mentioned the navigation should be available on every page in some form.

is it done with flash? might be quicker and tighter using flash.
while one things loading something else could be happening to draw the attention instead of a stagnant wait period.

i used soley flash for my site - its still only partly done, but...
route108.com

overall i think your needs to be faster - and set a fixed size for the site.

Yes, at the bottom right is just a 'back' button (unless I missed some other sort of navigation)... ?

I love the design of your site. I think it very artistic and enjoyable, however, I can't help but feel the design somehow takes away from your photography. With every photo faded to black on the edges, it is distracting. I don't get the total impact of your photography. I also found it hard to look at your work. I have to click around a lot to see it and that will potentially cause you to loose people's interest.

Just my thoughts.
Overall all it is nice,
just needs some polishing!

Best,
Renee

I'd have to say on the part about navigating back to home i agree! Nice site and it loaded good considering i am on dialup!
congratulations!

Great design. Not having the resize problem, but when I click a link it opens a new empty page over the top of the other. I am using Safari browser.

Let me start by saying that your photographs are excellent, but I agree with the early comment, that the design of the site takes away some of the impact. Re the navigation issue - consider making your logo a link , most peaple will look for the link there anyway.

Overall I would say you have the makings of a great , well designed site, just put some more thought into navigation.

Good Job

The ‘Chez & Red’ text in the top left should be a link back to your main menu, to aid navigation. This is standard on many sites, like DPC. Also on every page there is a slight blue square, about 150px across, in the black area between the lines of the left and the main content on the right. On my monitor this is quite clear and I find it to be very distracting as the rest of the page is mostly circular.

Apart from that, good site and great content.

I adjusted the contrast so it's easy to see.

Yeh I managed to see it but i had to adjust my monitor to a level i would never use!

Its not visible in my 'normal' settings

Very strange - the image you're using for your page is larger than my normal browser window but I don't get any scrollbars so I can't actually see the entire page. Leaving aside my normal "eek you've just done it as one huge picture" thoughts, that is very disturbing and means I can't see half the page...

Ganders,

At the moment you need to be using at least 1024x768, I will be working on a version for 800x600 soon. What resolution are yu using?

I don't see the bluse square on my monitor but I will adjust it later and check it out, thanks for that.

Didn't see the blue square. I think you need some mouseovers on the text links. Some of the links didn't go anywhere but you might not have anything there yet. More content maybe.

Excellent site, very professional.

My one other comment would be about navigation ....

I went to the B&W portraits, nice work. Clicked on one, but to see the next had to go back to the original window.

I would have preferred to have has a Next button so I could work my way through the images easier.

I have put a menu option on the screens which now takes you back to the main menu, I will also add this function as recommended to the Chez&Red logo at the top.

Thanks for all the comments so far

It takes me way to long to load the page.....I am on Dial Up Internet....The way it downloads for me it would take about 10 hours to view the whole site.....hehe

Good for me, I have an extra speedy ADSL connection. :-)

Design is super, very cool colours and shapes, anyway I think your navigation is too deep for my taste. I use a 2 level deep menu for my homepages: main menu and a submenu for each subjects. Maybe I would like to see thumbnails instead of one, two, three... links in the navigation. Otherwise I like it, it's pleasant to look at.

I'm on a 56k modem. Don't laugh.

The pages took forever to load. I noticed that the opening two graphics are 191kb and 76kb each. These could easily be resized without quality loss.

Some of the pages aren't up yet, a fact that wasn't highlighted. I got a bit frustrated moving the mouse over some buttons but with no link coming up.

Also, one has to click many times just to see a single photo. I wonder if some browsers (people, not the machines) would just give up before getting that far, especially if their connection speed is low.

Having said all that, I do love the design and the photos. The whole thing looks superb. If it were just a little more user-friendly, I'd be very happy.
