Fairly new to online photo competitions and challenges --- although already addicted to DPC. :-) Do any of you know about these other two sites or others worth visiting? Competico.com and Photolaureates.org were the two sites pointed out to me by a friend. Looks like a wider range of photographers posting (i.e., some very point-and-shoot type pix amidst better stuff), but also the promise of cash prizes. Do people ever actually win cash --- or is this bogus (and likely to generate lots of virus/spam activity on my computer)? Does anyone know?

| Competico is a popularity contest and has nothing to do with real photographic merit. Basically it is a SCAM - AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE. |

DPC forum search on the subject
In short, avoid like the plague, AND ask your friend why in heaven's name they'd send you THERE, of all places. |

And DPC is a popular style contest, how is this any different?

Here you vote for the photo, not the photographer.
And, unlike Photolaureates, DPC doesn't charge you to receive your "trophy", push you to buy a book "featuring" your photo (which is simply glued in to an existing book) etc., etc.

And Competico charges at least $1 per entry.
