Good excuse ;-) No honey, I didn't forget it was our "anniversary", I was just lookin' out for the kitty. |
Doesn't even have to be an excuse. She agrees, no flowers. She loves our cat like it is our child. She has been a wreck all weekend and we have visited him 4 times already. |

I love my children.
I hate teenagers.
I wish my children would never grow up.

God's test to adults are teenagers.
I hate tests.

Nope; that's a myth that refuses to go away. Lilies are poisonous; poinsettias aren't. Actually heard a vet repeat that just today in a lecture on animal health. So I won't panic if the animals eat my poinsettias.
Now, if they touch my chocolate, they are in serious trouble, and not just from what the chocolate can do to them ... |

Sheesh, when you bump this kind of thread you're supposed to at least whine about something!
Fine then, I will. I have a toothache. |

-Family members who borrow my scissors, tape, stapler, Sharpie markers, etc. and don't put them back where they came from.
-The guy who speeds up and cuts you off when he sees you are trying to change lanes.
-The guy who hangs out in your blind spot when you are trying to change lanes.

There are days when I think a return to the stone age would be nice. Yes, it means leaving digital cameras behind, but....
I needed to reactivate a computer account - keep in mind I already had an account, but it lapsed due to trips away from the office and a broken computer from which I access that account.
So... I fill out 7 (seven) pages of information, get my boss to sign it. Go to the airfield. Go to Building A - get a person there to sign it. Note that she did check my ID and checked the database to ensure I was in it. Go to Building B to request the account. They say I need another signature. Go to Building C (these buildings are not co-located by the way) and find it has a locked door. Ring a bell. Ring the bell again. Get "buzzed" in by an unseen person. Wander around inside looking for "Danny". Find "Danny". He takes the paperwork, signs. No ID, no computer look-up - just signs. Go back to Building B.
Now I need to take an Information Assurance test. Try to sign in to a training computer. Requires input of a ton of information to create a user account for a computer I will use once and only once. The information is in drop-down menus, none of which corresponds to the answers I need, so I just make stuff up. Get logged on. Click on the test - it takes me to another computer system. I must create another user account, that I will use once and only once. Again, none of the correct information is available to choose, so I pick stuff at random. Finally I get to the test. Take test. Pass test. Woo hoo!
Ah, but wait, there's more. Before I can get full access, I must go back to my office, to the ancient computer that runs this particular account, log in, and take FIVE (yes, you read that right, FIVE) more security tests. Then I must print the certificates, scan them, and email them back to the folks in Building B. But wait, THERE'S MORE!! I don't have email access until I take the five tests and email the certificates back. What's wrong with this picture? Better yet, that computer, which literally (and I am not kidding) takes 30 minutes to log into, does not have a printer. And at the moment, it's giving an error message - needs a file before it will allow me to log in - can't add the file unless I log in and then I can't add it anyway because I don't have system privileges. The IT guys in my building here don't have system privileges. We have to file a trouble ticket with guys from I don't know where, and within a month or so they'll stop by and fix it. And you wonder why the account lapsed?
Yet I need that account because a lot of the stuff I need to do for retirement can only be accessed from that computer system.
Oh, and my medical records are still MIA. The records folks where they're normally kept say they don't understand why they were sent somewhere else - they shouldn't have been. All the somewhere elses I've called have not seen them.
I may take up drinking. At noon. |

I could, except my personal data has been released/stolen at least three times in the past three years from these very freakin' secure systems. It's been almost two hours and the system I have to use is so slow I have been able to log on and complete 1 (one) course so far. I will have to sleep here to get all five done in the 48 hours alloted. I am not a happy camper.

Reminds me of some of the runarounds I got in the Air Farce. Not too different from the corporate world, actually. |

In-laws!!!!!!!! I have in-laws who insist on checking on me when the hubby is out of town working. I love them, sure, but they are all talkers and I am very reserved. One is a preacher/writer who constantly is quoting from his books for literally HOURS. I don't need to be preached at to feel less alone, that does more harm than good for me because it just pisses me off, I don't need "surprise" visits (I know they are just checking up on me like I'm a child), I don't need the guilt trips they try to give me for not coming to their church. Just because I don't doesn't mean I'm going down some horrible path. He claims to be one of the 3 or 4 people on earth that has conversations with God. He spends hours explaining what God has told him over the years, sometimes talking of demons and such and if I even start to look antsy he takes it personal... like who am I to doubt him. But, it's just that I've got better stuff to do with my time. So what do I do? That's rhetorical of course. I feel a little better now. |

Let out my frustrations? Sure, it might help. I wonder how hard it would be for 3 adults, a 9 year old, an infant and a large dog to live in a Jeep? I need to move. My landlord sold the house I've been renting for the last 11 years. The sewer system is shot and they don't have the 8k needed to fix it. I understand, they're in their mid 80's and want to liquidate their assets, not invest more money. I get it. It's cheaper to get a mortgage then it is to rent here. But I don't qualify for a mortgage because it would take 70% of my income each month to pay it. Yet, rent is about 120% of my income. Why is rent so expensive in NJ? It's ridculous! Who can afford 2k to 2.5k a month for rent (if you want to live in a decent house and not a shack)? Hell, the only 3 bedroom apartment I could find was $1633 plus utilites and I've been looking for almost 3 months. I could move out of state to somewhere more affordable, but my health insurance is tied to the state. If I move out of state I have no insurance. Not to mention leaving my extended family behind. So the Jeep? |

Holy c***! I feel grateful for having reasonable housing costs here in Texas. The Jeep sounds like an option. |

Tell me about it! The one house that I looked at and actually wanted had 40 people apply within an hour (it was only shown for an hour). I didn't get it. |

Come on down to North Carolina. Most of the other people living in NJ have. They love it here. So much that they're trying on a daily basis to make it more like good ol' NJ.
I'd hurry though. In a few years it will be so much like NJ that you won't be able to find any affordable place here either! We've got ice hockey too! You'll feel right at home. If you like New York you could move to Cary, NC.
Housing is a bit expensive there though.

LOL! Actually NC is on my list of places I was thinking about. My problem is I'm on social security disability. Before I went on it, I was determined not to. I went back to work and it cost me 2 heart attacks. They make you wait 2.5 years for medical insurance after you go on it (2 years, plus your waiting period of 6 months). So currently I get health insurance through the state. If I left the state, I'd lose it because my income is too high to requalify in another state (though not enough to actually buy insurance myself, plus with my medical history, forget it!). My federal insurance should come through in January. Maybe then, I'll try relocating. |
