One is a preacher/writer who constantly is quoting from his books for literally HOURS. I don't need to be preached at to feel less alone, that does more harm than good for me because it just pisses me off, I don't need "surprise" visits (I know they are just checking up on me like I'm a child), I don't need the guilt trips they try to give me for not coming to their church. Just because I don't doesn't mean I'm going down some horrible path. He claims to be one of the 3 or 4 people on earth that has conversations with God. He spends hours explaining what God has told him over the years, sometimes talking of demons and such and if I even start to look antsy he takes it personal... like who am I to doubt him. But, it's just that I've got better stuff to do with my time. So what do I do? That's rhetorical of course. I feel a little better now.

I don't know if this helps, but I sure find that to be a terribly destructive behavior. I have real issues with the way that these so called, and self-appointed saviors put pressure on people by forcing their beliefs, and all too often, their unreasonable idelas onto others. I have gotten to the point where I look them in the eye and tell them that God tells me how to live and that I don't think that whatever they have to say is going to override his guidance. Then I ask them to please respect the relationship that I have with God.

Regardless of your actual beliefs, it's a reasonable way to turn off the unwanted flow, and gives them a chance to bow out gracefully.

If the person won't leave you alone after that, walk away, do not let them into your house, do whatever you have to to keep away from their unwanted and destructive input.

IMNSHO, you certainly would not be out of line to ask these people to quit bothering you......and perhaps ask your husband to help you firmly discourage these meddlesome, and unwanted calls & visits.

I had one of those until one day he managed to really raise my hackles and I responded by telling him that religion thrives on ignorance... problems solved... hasn't mentioned one word on religion since and (not that I miss his company) I don't see him as often anymore.

Maybe then, I'll try relocating.

Well, we'd love to have you here. Just stay about 30-50 miles away from urban centers and housing is not so bad.
There used to be some gems that were real deals in downtown Raleigh. That's a thing of the past now. There might still be some in Durham.

Ok, now this one I can rant about: Collection Agencies
At some point either someone had or has used my phone number as their own who apparently does not pay their bills. For the last 6 months or so I have been receiving phone calls from at least three different collection companies looking for this person. I keep telling them they have the wrong number. I keep getting called a liar. The last two days I have literally been bombarded by them - both actual people and the recorded "hang on for an important phone call blah blah blah" automated kind. Last night was the last straw. A guy calls, I tell him he has the wrong number, he starts yelling at me, called me a liar at least three times insisting I either know where this person is or that I am the actual person. I hung up on him as usual after politely telling him he had the wrong number and asking, again politely, that he please stop calling. I did not even get back to my desk when the phone rang again. It was him. He didn't even go through his spiel, he just yelled at me that he was going to call every day and 'tough shit if I didn't like it.'

This prompted me to yet again call the number back and ask for a supervisor or manager (I have tried this before and was told my number was then removed from their system and obviously it wasn't) and spoke to a person they said was a manager. I explained to him the situation, he puts me on hold, and guess what? The original asshole picked up the call from hold and again started yelling at me. All total I received 12 phone calls last night alone.

This morning, first thing, I called the phone company and had my phone number changed and asked that they DO NOT put the recording on the old number giving out the new number. Done. (I just called the old and the new and all is well - no recording on the old and the new rings just like the old one did.)

Ahh...the silence is wonderful or it will be when I get home tonight and the phone is not ringing.

This is a violation of Federal law. Call your District Attorney (maybe the consumer fraud unit?) and see if you can press charges or file a complaint, or sue them in small claims court. See if the phone company can get you a record of the incoming calls.

When I lived in Florida, the phone number I got used to belong to a hair salon. In the beginning I got a lot of calls trying to schedule appointments. At one point I even investigated the salon and found their new number so I could give that out. But one day this lady calls and starts going on about how it was a DIRE EMERGENCY and she simply HAD TO HAVE HER HAIR DONE TODAY!! She didn't let me even get past hello. So I let her go on, told her, sure, we could get her in at 2:00 that afternoon. I did kinda feel sorry for the salon folks because she was gonna go off on them when she got there... :-)

Oh, the missed opportunities for pranking the collection agency, it breaks my heart.

Am I allowed to rant here about the 3+ hours I spent on the phone with verizon trying to work out a billing problem THEY created? Some how, about 4 months ago, they though it would be cool to split my internet bill from my fios television bill and only send me the internet bill, which I paid religiously. The fios television bill, it has been established, has been going to an address I lived at 10 YEARS AGO. I paid it religiously anyway, assuming maybe it was getting lost in the mail. Until they started returning my money. Yes, returning my money (they even had this written in my account). Seems, when they changed the address on the fios television account, they also created a new account number (without telling me). So, while I was sending the correct $$, it had the wrong account number on it. It made it to my account but their computer system kicked it back. By the end of the conversion, we had figured out that I had 5 different account numbers for two accounts and 2 had been deactivated. Since I haven't moved for over 10 years or changed my account since I got it three years ago, I'm just left wondering what the hell is going on...
...Sorry, had to get that off my chest and this seemed the place to do it. I ended up talking to no less than 13 service people, 9 of whom were no help at all. I have now a total of 7 different verizon numbers I can call to get absolutely no customer service.
