I don't have one, but I know it is an awesome lens for the money. I decided to go for the 2.8/IS version (and I love it), but I realize that is a big jump up in price. So if you don't need the extra stop of light or IS, the "little brother" rocks!

Hi Tony,
I very nearly bought one from B&H in New York about six months ago. I had read several rave reviews about the build and optics. Right now they are stonking value due to the exchange rate. The B&H website lists both US and internationally-warrantied products, so buy with confidence(though you don't get the UK distance-selling protections such as cooling-off or avoidance of unfair contract terms). However, for me, I decided to buy Canon's 28mm f1.8 and 85mm f1.8 to add to my (rarely used) Sigma 180 f3.5. I enjoy the lightness and brightness of these lenses - priceless for indoor work. E-Bay regularly has a couple of keenly-priced, New York based dealers with loadsa poz feedback. If you choose a New York vendor, there will be duty and VAT and shipping, but I suspect you'll still come out on top. If you want a UK dealer, you won't get better service than from Park Cameras of Sussex.

Not sure about the US price, but how about the Sigma 70-200/2.8 EX HSM?

You're losing quality, but gaining a wider aperture.

EDIT: Oh, you're in the UK Tony. :-D Sigma 70-200 EX HSM - 600 quid ish.

It seems to be a very good lens for the price. THe sigma 2.8 seems to be good as well from what I read. faster at 2.8 but bigger.

Not sure if you might have to 'rechip' the sigma to work with the 10D.

I read about backfocusing issue on the 10D so purchase it at a place you can potentially return it or send it to Canon for potential calibration if needed.

From what I read .. it's a no brainer quality/price wise. The only lens people move to fro, that one is the 70-2002.8 IS .. but bigger and a lot more expensive.

Oh and the lens is beige .. might attract attention a little more.

It is definitly on my purchase list.

My mate has the Sigma (bought a month ago) and it's working fine with his 10D.. Along with my 300D for that matter, when I borrow it.

I've been really happy with the f4. I've shot with both it and the bigger f2.8 version and like the f4 better, as it is lighter and generally smaller and more compact.

I don't do a whole lot of really low light telephoto stuff (indoor or late evening sports) so I don't really need the extra stop of light in the 2.8

The F4 works well with the 1.4x teleconverter, though the 2x works well with the 2.8

Check out photodo and photozone for a rough idea about the quality of the optics.

Woohoo! I just won a 70-200mm F4 on E-bay. I'll post some shots when I get the lens.

Now I have to figure out how to sell my Canon 75-300mm IS on Ebay. :) eeeehhh haaaaaaaah

Final bid was $543. This lens usually retails at BHPHoto for $580.

But for me, I will be saving lots of bucks, because the e-bayer was canadian. That means no taxes (15%) or brokerage fees (maybe $55) if it would have come in from the States. Plus it retails for $1,050 canadian which means it would have cost me $1200 with taxes. With the current exchange it cost me $717. I'm a happy man. This is the fifth lens I buy on E-Bay. So far so good.
