Well, I'm headin' out the door! I'll look forward to seeing everyone later today and tomorrow. Safe travels!

It's raining in NYC so I'll be skipping mermaid parade and heading out out as well. Hope the weather in PA is better.

Why would rain bother a mermaid?

it washes off body paint.... wait a minute, why am i not going then?!?!?

Mermaids aren't real?

Jeez, last year I find out that Santa was just some fat guy the mall hires and now this. I don't know what to believe anymore.

Believe what you see in photos - everybody knows they don't lie!

Check it out... there's a new cell tower at the bottom of the hill! We may actually be able to make calls to one another this year!

NOTE! If you would like to park at the picnic area at the bottom of the trail in the morning, I have arranged for a shuttle van to take us to the Visitor Center/Park Office promptly at 9:30! Cost is $5 per person... this should be nice and convenient for us!

Dude.....I don' mean to appear cheap or nuthin', but bringing water, grille, propane, plates & cups, garbage bags, & pasta salad, I was kinda figuring were doing that shuffle thing like we did last year.

Since I have four in my group, that's $20 I wasn't really looking to spend.

I also made arrangements based on the current plans as of a couple of hours ago to pick up our fourth member, with the idea of getting there pretty close to 10 at the visitor center.......as YOU had originally planned.

What happened to NOT changing up plans at the last minute?

I really don't want to get up an extra half hour or so early either......I'm OLD, and need my sleep.

The plans have NOT CHANGED. The van is just a extra option for anyone who wants to park at the bottom to begin the day. It's certainly not madatory or anything... just an extra option. We are still meeting at the visitor center at 10.

Is there any advantage to parking at the bottom as opposed to the visitor center? I don't mind the $5 for myself (since it's just me), but it would mean arriving 1/2 hour earlier than I had planned.

Doesnt really matter either way... some may find the van more convenient, thats all. The van will also be available after the hike... or someone from the group can offer a ride up.

Fair enough -- I'll see you at 10am at the visitor center then!

And we're back!

Mandy and I both had a wonderful time today - it was great to see you all again! I can't wait to see what everyone shot; I'll have photos posted soon(ish).

And I'm back. I had a great time today and yesterday. Big rowdy groups at TGIFridays' are fun. :)

We had a near perfect day. Tons of water coming over the falls. Plenty of cloud cover. The rain never got too bad. Jeb had him umbrella just in case. And then the clouds broke for a beautiful sky once we started the picnic. Not too shabby.

Sorry I took off abruptly. Everybody looked so worn out, nothing was happening, and I had to get back to pack for vacation tomorrow morning.

It was great seeing you guys (and gals) again. Even got to meet some new people this time. I'm looking forward to next year.

I've got a ton of photos to go through, but it's gonna be a week before I really get to it.

Here's a couple:

Didn't see too much wildlife other than this guy:

And of course, these guys:

I did manage a stealth-camera-phone snap of the umbrella = )

One more tonight:

(first attempt at an HDR - did I do it right?)

Just got home - what a great time!

As previously mentioned, the evening at TGIF was a blast... and I'm very glad that the weather cooperated perfectly for us today. It was a great time all around, and I'm already looking forward to my next visit out there.

It was great to see so many familiar faces along with a couple new ones!

Alan,

Thanks for organizing this.

I had a great time meeting everyone. That was definitely an exhausting hike. I'm glad I wasn't there for the round-trip version two years ago! But we had perfect weather and great conditions for shooting the falls.

And here are mine. I was a bit surprised to get home and realize that I didn't shoot any of anybody who was there, so instead of models in bikinis, you get more nature shots...

I had the IR filter on all day, hence the different look of these:
