I think it would be cool to have a challenge of an icon of your city, such as: Eiffel Tower, Times Square, etc

I think we already had this challenge once, but I can't remember what it was called.
Correction: I was remembering a challenge that Fujimugs had called "Landmarks."

Cool idea, though it could leave some people out of the challenge that don't live near any well known landmarks.

It wouldn't necessarily have to be a well known landmark...just a landmark around your area...every1 has landmarks....could be something like a courthouse or a monument of sometype

i like this idea a lot. for people who don't have a monument or landmark (which they probably do) it's a reason to go on a short trip to find something :)

Every city has something to show!!! And its a cool way to get to know a little more about other countries :

My 'city' is one block long and there is nothing to show.

Landmarks - yes, good. And landmarks can be well-known or anything you might use to navigate (e.g. the broken tree on the hill, the pink neon nightclub).

Those of us who live near a well-known city icon (the Eiffel Tower, the Empire State Building) won't necessarily have an advantage. I expect voters would judge those photos pretty harshly, having seen them a zillion times before.

Problem with that is only someone local would know that and consider it a 'landmark.'

i don't see why that would be a problem. the whole idea is to introduce this little known landmark or point of interest to people who don't know about it. that's what makes the challenge idea fun.

of course, it's also a chance for certain voters to say "zomg doesn't meet challenge, 1 lol" but honestly, you're going to get some of that anyway ;)

Ok, so I can take a picture of a tree on a corner and call it a landmark since at some point someone used it in giving some lost soul directions. Makes sense.

in my opinion it would have to be a tree that was largely accepted as a clear landmark to a lot of people in the town. a random tree is probably pushing it and not in the spirit of the OP. but if it's an awesome picture of a really cool looking, interesting tree, then i think that would be sweet.

i just really like this suggestion :)

So to make it fair to everyone, lets have an "Interesting Tree Challenge".

what about the challenge of tunnels and caves? Not all the cities have them, especially those that are "only one long block and nothing to show" ;)

I beg to differ with you. How about your demotivational picture, that was an interesting tree!

more of a sapling. all the trees near me are silly and try to grow where they can't really plant their roots :P

but back to the topic, i feel like every town i've ever been in has had at least one thing that at least all of the locals know about, and probably some tourists. maybe a certain record store or diner, a giant red barn, a peculiar tree, a monument, a park, a lighthouse, a huge statue of a cowboy with a lasso standing next to a giant bull for some reason... something! it just sounds like a lot of fun

I agree that this challenge will be fun, but I think will be, more or less, just another "Postcard" challenge, not that that would be a is a bad thing.

Question: would you (the listeners) limit the challenge to architecture specifically, or any icon of a city/town.

Just some food for thought.

I like it...City/Town Icon...heck, that could even be a person. As far as a challenge description goes, leave it blank and let us make up our own minds as to what the icon is.

That would be cool, but my nearest famous land mark is the Space needle and thats about 300 miles away. Dang.

Oh, something like Challenge 284 Landmarks?
